Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use and Efficient I love this pump! It does a good job of efficiently extracting my milk, even when I’m starting to get clogged ducts, which happens to me frequently. It is so quiet, I’m able to pump in bed at night next to my husband and not disturb him. I plan on using this pump to travel between home and work and believe it’s small size will make this easy. The only down side I’ve found is that I need to charge the battery about every other day. I also love that this pump connects to my phone to help me record my pumping sessions. I would definitely buy this all over again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I bought this right before I had my baby. Based on talking with coworkers and friends, I knew I wanted a pump that was easy to use, reliable, and quick. The Sonata is all of these. I only need to pump about 15 minutes each session which will be helpful when I return to work. I also love the 2 different pumping rhythms to mix it up and make sure I am getting the most out of pumping. I also really like the blue tooth on it to link to the app and track my pumping status.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! This pump is amazing! I’ve had other pumps before and I don’t think none of them have been able to do what the Sonata does, the pump itself is heavy but luckily I don’t really take it places since I mostly use it at home. The battery does last me about 4-5 pumps before I have to charge it which is nice! I also do love that I can easily pause my session and then continue on with a simple push of a button! This is great for moms who are mostly home I feel like and have time to sit and pump or moms that need a more durable pump, definitely worth the money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pump This is a great pump. I am currently Exclusive pumping for my second son, and am pumping 8x per day. I love that this pump has great suction, a timer, has automatic stimulation and expression phases (and remembers your settings), and most of all, that it connects to your phone to make entering pumping seasons super simple. It’s also much quieter than my previous pump (Hygeia Enjoye). And as a bonus, it looks super cool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I bought this little while ago and it's been a wonderful item for me I love the fact that it doesn't have to be plugged in to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Freedom to move! I bought this pump so I could keep up with my little guy! I love the portability this pump offers (I don’t have to be plugged into the wall to pump). I’ve done laundry, made dinner, washed dishes, and even pumped in the car! I use a nursing cover and pump when I’m out with my family. I can’t give this product enough praise - as a first time mom, this pump gave me FREEDOM!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy to use! I am loving this pump. It's so easy to use, quiet and minimal. I can cart it around easily and it cleans well too. Love how it connects to the app too so I can track all the details.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relieve & So Happy! I honestly love the pump! With my first born I had a pump in style advance and because I had issues with my supply I was loaned an old hospital grade Medela pump. It was rough having to carry a big tote everywhere I went with work so that I could pump. I’m so happy I splurged on this pump. It’s made it easier to pump and I LOVE that I can connect it to the app via Bluetooth to track my pumping sessions. Then I can download the stats and see how much milk I have pumped over time. I’m big on data so having that for before I went to worked helped! I made sure that I had 100+oz of frozen milk so that baby wouldn’t be hungry. I would totally recommend this pump!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet & Convenient! I had a Medela Pump In Style Advanced with my first child but didn’t like having to be close to an outlet and (like most pumps) hated how loud it was. I decided to treat myself with my second child and I’m SO glad I spent the money. Once you fully charge it it lasts for many pumping sessions which I found very useful to not have to bring my charging cord in my pump bag every day. Also, it truly is super quiet. I can pump right next to my sleeping baby and she stays sleeping. Lastly, the pump bag looks like it could be a regular purse. When showed my friends they had no idea it was a pump bag. I would highly recommend this pump to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pump With a baby that spent time in the nicu and having to rely solely on pumping I wanted a hospital grade because that's obviously what I used in the hospital. So so impressed with this pump. At first I tried my old PIS and yes that's a great pump as well but when I received and used the Sonata I definitely noticed a difference in power and milk output!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pumping abilities with Suction I bought the Sonata a few weeks prior to the birth of our premie son, he is our third premie) the first two children (boy/girl) I had the Freestyle pump. I was questioning whether to stick with Medela or try a different pump considering I didn’t have much success with breastfeeding and I never seemed to pump enough ounces of our first two children that I thought I would try something different. I did 6 months worth of research on all different pumps and I decided to invest my money back into Medela but in the Sonata. I am so thankful that I did, I am 3 weeks post baby and the sonata is way better than the freestyle as far as suction, drainage of my milk, and comfort. I have now have pumped over 200 ounces in 3 weeks. My son does not drain my milk in which is leaving me engorged! I pump with the Sonata after and still pump about 5 ounces out of each boob. Spending the extra money on the Sonata was and is worth it. I will say the biggest downfall is the battery, you do have to make sure you charge it, I pump for 20-30 mins and I get about 3-4 pumping sessions which is about 2-3 hours worth of use. But I charge it once every 24 hours and it stays off the charger until it dies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sonata pump I absolutely LOVE this pump! I can not say enough good things about it. The fact that I can take it literally anywhere with me because it holds a charge (as well as plugs in to the wall) It comes with a portable icepack to store the bottles. The letdown feature that helps pump milk quicker, as well as different strength levels. It lights up so there is no problem seeing and adjusting your settings in the middle of the night. Easy to clean, and even comes with a bag to store and take it all with you! WELL worth it's price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely love my Sonata pump I recently received my Sonata breast pump, and I have been using it regularly since receiving It as I'm wanting to get my milk supply established before my baby arrives in a few weeks and I have to admit that the quality Madela puts into their pumps is far better than the evenflo dual electric pump I was using. After switching to a Madela, no others compare I would recommend using Madela breast pumps to any momma.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super quiet and has an internal battery I received the Medela Sonata Smart Breast Pump from weeSpring Parent Panel to try and review, I'm so glad I did! It has quickly become my favorite pump that I have tried, and I have tried a few. There are many perks to this pump such as the app (you can keep track of pumping times and output and compare day to day so there is no questioning if you are doing in output or how it's going), it's super quiet which is a huge plus (I can make phone calls without being asked what that noise is, my husband has even commented how quiet it is, which is amazing!), it has an internal battery so no more worrying about if I have a battery pack or if my batteries have enough juice, I've been pumping more in a shorter amount of time. The pump parts are a little heavy but they are study and it does pull a little hard sometimes regardless of what I do, but this is not something that would deter me from using or purchasing in the future. I've already recommended this pump to friends and will continue to use it myself! #weeSpring #weeSpringParentPanel #Medela #MedelaSonata

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful pump! Strong and comfortable! I received the Medela sonata breast pump through the weespring parent panel and boy was I excited! I had been using another pump with far less features and was super excited to try the Medela one. I honestly had no clue how poorly my other pump worked until I felt how great the Medela one pumped! Super strong and efficient but also comfortable and soothing. Love the different settings and levels super easy to clean and take to and from work! Love how quiet it is and being able to track directly on my phone!!! A+

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pump! Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for allowing me to try and review the Medela Sonata Breast Pump. For my previous two babies, I used the Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump and loved it so I was excited to try this one. The features I love the most are its quietness, the rechargeable battery, and the touch screen. I also like that there is only one tube that links the pump to the bottles, which seems to balance the suction better than my previous pump. There is also a clock on the screen which is very helpful! Thank you again to weeSpring Parent Panel!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holy grail! I thought I had my holy grail when I was using the lansinoh but I finally decided to upgrade and buy the Sonata was smart breast pump and I have been pumping ten times more milk and in less time! The suction on this pump is amazing and it doesn’t wake my baby up! And I can actually charge it and bring it with me! And the parts are easier to clean, this pump might be a bit expensive but trust me ladies you will not regret this pump! It will be your life saver!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much love for this Breast Pump! I received the Medela Sonata breast pump from the weespring parent panel and I don't know how I was pumping before without it!! This breast pump cannot even compare to the Pump In Style also by Medela. I definitely felt like I could express more milk with the Sonata than the Pump In Style and it was getting expressed at a quicker rate and it didn't even feel like I was strapped to a machine with how quiet the Sonata was while pumping. The fact that you can have the Sonata charged up and ready to take with you without having to worry about where to plug in is a complete life saver. It's even convenient to take with you on the road to pump while driving. Another huge plus for me was the added timer on the Sonata that could be easily synced up to the MyMedela App to keep track of how long and how much I am pumping each time. My only concern with the Sonata is that it does show you when the battery is low; however, it would be nice to have some sort of ding to be notified that the battery is about to die before it completely cannot be used. Overall, I am completely pleased with the Medela Sonata breast pump.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pump I've tried so far! This pump is seriously amazing! I'm exclusively pumping for the second time, and I've tried a ton of pumps. Prior to getting the Sonata I was using a Medela Symphony primarily and a battery operated pump from a different brand for travel and car pumping. My supply has been hard won and difficult to maintain, but I'm to the point where I trust the Sonata to maintain my supply as my primary pump which is going to save me about $64 a month. The suction is fantastic on this pump, and I find it more comfortable than other pumps that I've tried. Comfort for me means higher output, which means I can donate to a milk bank now! It's really meaningful to me after being an under supplier with my first baby. This pump is quiet enough that I can pump next to a sleeping baby or husband and not disturb them. The noise isn't grating like some pumps I've tried. I have so many parts for the Symphony that I was pretty bummed that the Sonata uses different ones, but I'm convinced that having more pieces gets them all cleaner because there are fewer nooks and crannies. Bonus: no more of those flappy valves that I can't stand! Car pumping feels way more discreet with the Sonata than the enormous battery pump setup. The battery gets me through 3-4 thirty minute pumping sessions between charges and it charges very quickly. The app worked great for me. The fact that it connects with the pump is so so so awesome. I wish there was a way to import the first five months of data from the app I started with because I'm a total data nerd. I'm so thankful to the weeSpring Parent Panel for giving me the opportunity to try this fantastic pump!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pump! The Sonata is the next best thing tonhospital grade pumps!! Even better in my opinion because this is quiet and portable! The led screen makes pumping in the dark easy!! This pump is everything you would want in a pump and more! The the 2 phase expression feature! Just how a baby does it! Battery life is good! My sessions are 15-20min 3 times a day and I have had no issues! Pump and all it’s parts are high quality! Compared to other pumps this one is definitely better! Love the carrying bag too! Thank you weespring parent panel for sending me this awesome pump!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Literally the best pump I received this breast pump from the weespring parent panel and I fell in love! This is the 3rd breast pump I have tried since June 2017. I though the last one I tried was great but this is even better! It's sleek looking and very portable. You're not trapped sitting in one spot stuck to the wall. cause you CHARGE this one. so cool! It's not loud at all which is a plus. We all know how annoying loud breast pumps are. The milk stimulator feature is great! and it's so cool cause it connects to the app medela app. the little cooler for your milk is amazing and I wish I had it for traveling in the past. plus bag to carry it around with you. I can't say anything bad about this pump what so ever. its amazing! Thank you medela for making such a great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Pump On The Go! For my first kiddo, I used the Pump In Style Advanced and liked it. I was given the Sonata breast pump to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel and I absolutely love it! I've used it now for a few months and can't say enough great things about this pump. My favorite features of the Sonata are the battery (I can get 3 solid 20-minute sessions without fear of losing power), noise level (no fear of being on a call at work while pumping, they'll never know), and the ease of cleaning. Those pump parts y'all - they are a lot easier to clean than the Pump In Style. I started using the Sonata once in a good routine when back to work after having my second kiddo, so didn't use the My Medela app, but I think I would have really liked using that in the first couple months of pumping. The display that shows the time/level is a little hard to read, but it's not a huge issue. If you're able, go for the Sonata, it really makes a difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Pump Ever!! The Medela Sonata Breast Pump is amazing!! It is the quietest pump I’ve ever used. It is lightweight, and I love the place to hold which makes it super easy to carry. I love that you can charge it up and take it with you. The charge lasted through numerous pumping sessions for me. I liked the bag it came with to carry the pump and supplies on the go. I liked that the pump links up to the My Medela App to keep track of when I pumped, and I could input how many ounces. The best feature for me was the way it pumped. Not only was it the most comfortable pump I’ve ever used, but it also gave me an increase in the amount. I highly recommend this pump, and have recommended already to everyone I know!! Thank you to the weeSpring Parent Panel for giving me this Pump to try!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect pump for working mom I received this product from the weeSpring parent Panel at no cost. I use this pump multiple times a day, 5 days a week at work and love it. I also had the Medela Pump in Style which I got through insurance. I never had any issues with it and always pumped a good amount but the Sonota is definitely a step up! I love that it connects to the app and helps me keep track of times and amount that I pumped. You can look at the data to see if a certain level works best for you. I also used the app to keep track of nursing which was very convenient. So easy to sync to the app and you just hold down the Start button to complete your session and log the amounts. I also preferred this one for work because it's so much quieter. I sit in an office with the door closed and do not have to worry about coworkers hearing me which is a relief. I didn't really notice the pump changing in responsiveness but I liked that you could choose one of two different settings to see which works best for you. The suction also doesn't seem as intense. I was starting to get very sensitive from using it multiple times a day but once I switched to the Sonota that seemed to go away. Also be sure you are using the right size shields! This set comes with two sizes which is nice. The parts are also easy to clean. There aren't any small membranes to keep track of and you can easily put everything into a basket in the dishwasher. It's great that it also comes with the travel kit for the milk. This is a must for going to work. The only thing I disliked was that the pieces are not see through like with the Pump in Style. I have to bend my neck to look and see if anything is dripping into the bottles. Otherwise, I don't know when to stop. If the top was see through it would be much easier to see if I am still successfully pumping. I really enjoyed that this pump is lightweight, even with a built-in battery! I haven't had to use it yet but it's such a relief that I don't have to hunt down an outlet (if I had this product sooner it would have been perfect to bring to a wedding where I had to hunt down a place to sit with an outlet). I definitely recommend this step up from the Pump in Style. So many great additional features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Medela Sonata Ive tried a few pumps and struggled to get my milk supply up since my baby is 8 months old now. I felt like I was failing! I really now know it was just my pump. The Medela Sonata pump is amazing! It helped my supply since I was not ready to give up giving my baby breast milk. This pump is quite enough that it did not interfere with my daily life! The app is easy to use along with the pump. The pump itself is easy to use and the parts are easy to clean! I can’t wait to use this more and continue to breast pump! Thank you Weespring parent panel and Medela for the chance to review this product in exchange for this amazing pump!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Upgrades! I’ve been using this pump for a little over a month and it’s a great upgrade when compared to my Medela Pump In Style. I used the Pump in Style with my first child for ~10 months. I started using the Sonata for my second child, just as I returned to work and started pumping 3-4x/day, 5 days/week. My absolute favorite features are the extremely quiet operation and the timer on top. And while the app has more features than I care to use, I like the Bluetooth feature that helps me keep track of my pumping sessions. I typically keep this in one place as I use this during my work day while my baby is in daycare but I’ve also flown with it and loved the battery capability. I was skeptical that the pump could keep its power but it was effective with the battery as it is plugged in. The only thing I have a little trouble with is tightening the bottles while attached to the pump parts. Perhaps it’s a design feature to prevent over tightening but if you turn too far, the bottles pop off. It takes a little attention to find the sweet spot. Overall I’m thrilled with this pump. It’s efficient, quiet and has lots of little perks that make it stand out against my original pump. Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pumping on the Go I began my pumping journey with a different Madela pump which worked well but tied me to an electrical outlet. Receiving the Madela Sonata pump from the weeSpring Parent Panel days before I returned to work is one of the happiest days of my breastfeeding/pumping experience! I do not have an office, nor am I in the same location for work. Finding an outlet near a chair and table is almost impossible. Enter the quiet, sleek, battery-operated Sonata with ice pack and carrier for four bottles. This pump has made returning to work so much easier! Though I do wish the bag was slightly larger to fit cleaning wipes and a pumping bra, it is compact and rides nicely on my shoulder. I love that there is a timer function on the pump as I do not have to keep my phone nearby in order to know how long I've been pumping. If I had this pump from the beginning I would probably have used the app, but I track ounces in a different app that tracks a variety of baby activities and like the convenience of one app. There are several pieces to the pump that need to be washed, but they are large and easy to clean, which I appreciate more than my other pump. This also makes it easier to rinse/clean while on the go without the worry of losing small pieces! The downfall is that it is a bit heavier and sometimes requires more support than my hands-free pumping bra provides. I have continued to pump the same amount as my previous pump in a shorter amount of time. Yay for more time to actually eat during lunch! I am in love with the portability and efficiency of this pump. If you must pump at work, this is THE pump.

Is Sonata a closed system pump?

Asked by: amomma
Yes. In the market, the term "closed" refers to a membrane that blocks milk from entering the tubing or motor. Medela calls this membrane Overflow Protection, and it is part of every Medela double breast pump, both personal-use and hospital-grade (multi-user) breast pumps. Medela breast pumps are therefore, by market definition, considered to be closed systems. Our Sonata has the overflow protection at the breast shield connector. Please feel free to chat with us on our website if you have additional questions.

Is this compatible with Compton bottles?

We have only tested our breast pumps for use with our Medela breast milk bottles and storage containers. We are therefore unable to recommend that a non-Medela bottle be used with our Sonata Breast Pump. Please consider chatting with us on our website if you have any additional questions.

Is there a way to pump directly into storage bags with this pump? Rather than have to pump into a bottle to dump right into a bag and then have to clean the bottle. Thanks!

Asked by: MamaBear1018
It has been a year since we looked into this. We wanted the same thing. Medela has a solution for this but it was not compatible with the sonata pump. We bought it anyways. The plastic adapters came included with the bags. The adapters did not fit because the arms that hold the bag stuck out too far. I shortened the arms and bent them up, and it fit just fine.  The bags are also quite expensive, so we ended up buying a less expensive brand and cut slits into them to make them work the same.

Which pump is most recommended for twins? Looking for a hospital grade pump.

Asked by: Kristine15811
The Sonata is wonderful although I never had twins I would imagine it would help. I have used the pump in style, freestyle, and this one and this is by far the best. The Sonata is the closest personal use style pump to a hospital grade without the high price.

1. Do all the accessories (including the cooler bag with contoured ice pack and bottles) fit inside the bag? It appears small 2. Does the Sonata Pump use the same the same bottles as the Pump in Style Advanced? I want to be sure they are compatible.

Asked by: sq123
Yes, the little cooler fits the ice pack and two regular size Medellin bottles. The bottles for the pump in style are the same for the sonata. I had both pumps. My favorite was hands down the sonata. Better suction, more control, has a timer, very quiet, and best part it’s portable! Cons: the carry bag doesn’t carry a lot and is awkward. I just put everything in a backpack: more pockets, easier to organize, and has more space for everything I want to take.

Can this pump use for an exclusive pumper ? meaning every 2 or 3 hours? If not want is the  recommended amounts of pumping  sessions per day! Also then if it’s not for  exclusive pumper  is there Better pump to  recommend.  Besides the symphony thanks .

Yes I used this for my exclusive pumping but had suction and battery problem with multiple ones. They were great about replacing it but it was still an inconvenience. I would look into a different Madela pump not the Sonata.
