Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing better This is the pump the hospitals use, oooooh, it just sends shivers down my spine knowing that my insurance will be delivering mine soon! The only problem is, no, they're not cheap. If you struggle with getting a pump to express enough milk ou, this is the solution, I guarantee you won't be disappointed!!! P.s use the hospitals' symphony as much as you possibly can, nothing compares, enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Amazing I fell in love with the symphony with my first child three and a half years ago. I rented the system from my local wic office. If I had $2k this pump would be mine. Its head and shoulders above the rest.

I read that it pumps for 30min. I have been connected for the past hour and it is continuing to pump and not shut off. Is this normal?

Asked by: Ashlyd
Hi Ashlyd--- The breast pump will automatically shut off after 30 minutes of complete inactivity. If the vacuum setting or let down button are used during those 30 minutes, it will start the time from that point forward. If you have found that it goes for more than 30 minutes even when you don't move the vacuum setting or let down button during the session, then please chat with us on our website. We'd be happy to help!

I’m renting the symphony hospital grade pump and was wondering if the parts we bought for the pump work on any of your other pump machines so we know what we can reuse and what we need to buy new.

Asked by: Victoria89
Thanks for reaching out to our team! Our Symphony breast pump uses the same breast shields, connectors, valves, and membranes as our Pump in Style Advanced and our Advanced Personal Double Breast Pump. However, different tubing will be needed. If you have any other questions, please consider chatting with us on our website. Our team is happy to help!

I was surprised to read that this is a "two-phase" suction pattern breast pump. Why has Medela not adopted the "irregular-breast pump suction pattern" pump? Does it switch? Research shows irregular is most effective for premature infants. Thank you!

Asked by: Annette H.
Hi Annette--- The Symphony PLUS program card contains two different programs for the Symphony breast pump. These research-based programs were developed specifically to support mothers throughout their lactation journey: to initiate, build and maintain adequate milk production. The Maintain program contains Medela’s 2-Phase Expression® technology with a higher-frequency stimulation phase (120 cpm) to stimulate milk flow, followed by a slower expression phase (~60 cpm) to express the milk. It can be used by all mothers to help build and maintain their milk production. The Initiate program, which is part of our Symphony PLUS Breast Pump, contains Medela’s Initiation Technology with a mixture of stimulation phases, an expression phase and a pause phase. This seems to be more along the lines of what you were referring to when mentioning the "irregular-breast pump suction pattern". It has a fixed duration of 15 minutes and is intended for use by pump-dependent mothers until milk comes in (pumping 20 mL or more in total in each of three consecutive pumping sessions OR for a maximum of 5 days). This is normally the program recommended by healthcare providers for moms of premature babies. We hope that helps answer your questions. If you have any further questions, please consider live chatting with us on our website. We'd be happy to help!

Can the symphony parts be reused for a second baby?

Asked by: Katie12
Hi Katie12--- Thanks for reaching out to us! Medela prides itself on having safe reliable products, that’s why we only use the safest food grade plastics for all parts that touch breast milk. All parts that touch breast milk are made without BPA, BPS, DEHP, PVC, and Phthalates. It is usually best to use new parts with each child since we can't speak in regards to the environment or condition in which they may have been stored. It would ultimately be up to you and your comfort level in using those same parts. If you have any further questions, please consider live chatting with us on our website. We're happy to help!

Would you recommend this hopital grade breast pump for a mother's room within an organization....where women bring their own pump parts to hook up to the pump? Does the main pump need to be maintained on a regular basis? How often?

Hi, I rented a Symphony pump but the suction is so weak. I tested with Medela vacuum gauge and I got 180(level 1) -220mmHG. Does it work fine? Or I have to send it back to rent a new one? Thank you.
