I had a small 5 pounder 10 years ago who wouldn't latch. For two days in the hospital she screamed her lungs out cuz she was hungry and i was so adament about breastfeeding only that i didnt want her to have the bottle, so i kept trying. When we got home on the second day, my breasts were so engorged. I immediately used an electric breastpump to release the milk and tried the nipple shield and it worked immediately! She latched on right away and i nursed for almost 5 months! I loved every moment spent breastfeeding my newborn baby and if it wasn't for the nipple shield, I don't think I would have been successful at it. It saved us.
