Weaning - what to do at night?

I'm working on weaning my 1-year-old just from daytime nursings (onto whole milk). We're still not ready to give up his first morning and night-time nursings, I'm guessing at least for several months. My question is what to do about the evening when my husband and I decide to go for a night out and get a sitter? Do we have her give him a bottle ...

Re: Concerned about day away in the city...Ok not to pump?!

Oh, it ended up being fine! I did go 8 hours w/out pumping and just felt a little full and tingly by the time I got back to my baby. No big deal. I couldn't have gone longer though without really hurting, I'm sure! It did nothing to hinder my supply - no blocked ducts or anything either. My friend, who is an IBCLC told me it shouldn't be a ...

Concerned about day away in the city...Ok not to pump?!

My husband and I are leaving our almost-7-month-old with his grandmother tomorrow and going into Boston for 6-8 hours.  Normally, while at work, I pump every 3 hours.  However, I don't pump at night and he is sleeping through...so I do go 8 hours then without pumping or nursing.  Would it be OK to not pump at all while in the city, or am I ...

Re: Extremly frustrated with low supply while pumping

Thanks again!  Yeah, I'm trying to be more relaxed while pumping to see if that helps.  I put a small lamp in the room I pump in for dim lighting versus the overhead flourescent lighting (yuck).  I'm also closing my eyes and massaging more and thinking about my baby more.  I had been (shamefully) playing games on my cell phone or calling people ...

Re: Extremly frustrated with low supply while pumping

Thanks so much for your reply.  I actually just ordered ''More Milk Plus'' only the special blend w/goats rue this time...Their original, which I've tried previously did not have this ingredient and I've heard it can make a significant difference...I also ordered a guided imagery CD to listen to while I pump...If the supplement I ordered does not ...

Extremly frustrated with low supply while pumping

Hi all - I am getting exhausted and frustrated that I can only seem to pump an average of 4 oz per session. I work three 12-hour days/week and can only pump HALF of what my baby eats in one of my work days and have to work like mad to pump on off days between feedings. I pump every 3 hours. I'm frustrated to the point of tears now with this, as ...

Re: Can I mix milk expressed on different days?

I mix mine and as others have said, use the earliest date if I need to label it.

uh oh...baby is needing more!

My son is 5 months, 1 week old and it seems as though he's starting to need more milk than he has been over the past couple of months. I am gone 12 hours three days/week (and home with him nursing the other days). He is exclusively BF - no cereal intro yet (I would ideally love to hold off until 6 months). I usually pump ~20 oz whether I pump 4 ...

Can I clean my equipment after every other pumping session vs every pumping session?

This is going to seem lazy, but honestly it's more related to a time issue at work...Knowing that breastmilk remains safe for consumption x5 hours at room temperature...if I'm going to pump again within 5 hours, is it Ok to just clean my breast pump equipment every other feeding versus every feeding? The theory being that the breastmilk on the ...

Issues w/medela bottles/nipples

Hi All - I returned to work 3 weeks ago and have been continuing to exclusively feed my baby with breast-milk, thanks to my freestyle!  I love the medela bottles because they are compatible with my pump, however my son's daycare provider just informed me that she feels he's ''gagging'' on the nipples a bit too much.  Any ideas on other nipples ...
