Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS PUMP! I am in love with this pump! This is our second child and I wish we had this one with our first. We purchased the Pump in Style originally with our first and it did not work for me.Eventually I dried up because the pump did not work for my body. We got rid of that pump and needed to purchase a new one for this baby. My husband and I had a little sticker shock with the Sonata but I knew the other option wasn't going to work. We went ahead and purchased it praying it would work better than the first pump did for us. WOW!! Upon the first use I was able to get at least double what I got with the Pump in Style. The Money spent was SO worth it!! I love that it can be taken anywhere and that it has the ability to sync with my phone. I would also recommend getting the hands free bra so that you can pump and still get things done. I can not say enough good things about this pump and I will be recommending it to all my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for on the go mom’s I have been using the sonata for seven months now! It’s very convenient because as a working mom I can pump anywhere without needing to plug into a power outlet, the parts are easy to clean and longer lasting then my previous pump. Love that it conects to your phone and automatically uploads you pumping session.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this pump! I recently gave birth to y second child. With the first child I was able to pump once I returned to work using the Medela pump in style. It worked perfectly for the time that I used it. The second go around I decided to try a different style and went with the Sonata. I thought about it a long time before pulling the trigger on such an expensive item, but I am so glad I did. It is so quiet and luxurious...I had no idea what I was missing. The portability is also so very handy. I have been back to work one week and I am super happy with the purchase. I have not really used the smartphone function yet. Also I was able to purchase this pump as an “upgrade” since my insurance did not cover the entire amount of this model. The remaining balance I was able to take care of with my health savings account. I do agree with the previous review about the bag. I actually really like the bag it comes with, but I am not able to fit the assembled pump parts in with the pump and cooler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hospital performance! I absolutely love my Sonata! I had to rent the Symphony for my first pregnancy because the PISA wasn’t strong enough and lug that around. The Sonata is just as effective, very portable and I love the Bluetooth feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pump Bought the Sonata a month ago and have been using it twice daily while nursing other times and so far have been satisfied with it. The pump is very quiet. It has a timer and syncs to your phone through the Medela app. Which by the way, the app is great too! It gives so much feedback through your pumping sessions. The parts to the pump are easy to use and to put together is a breeze. The only downfall is the terrible, funny looking bag it comes with. I will be heading to work next month and will be using a bag to carry all my pumping items. The bag will not hold it all (pump parts, pump, cooler, tablet, extra items). I did talk to a rep if they can sell me the tote that comes with the pump in style but they said they cannot do that. I think Medela needs to make the tote the same for all pumps. Just saying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight I got this and I am in LOVE with the product. Its very quiet and lightweight. The bag is the size of a purse. I like how you can download the app on your phone and it tracks how much you are pumping. Its a very expensive pump BUT you will not be disappointed!!!

Sometimes when pumping the suction seems to decrease and the milk splashed back at my nipple. Is this normal? Should I consider buying replacement membranes and see if that helps? I have two sets of parts  already and it doesn’t happen all the time.

Asked by: Aimeek
I have found a similar thing to happen. This is my second baby with a second sonata pump and they have both done it. I have never noticed the decreased suction but have found that if there isn’t enough milk to go down, past the membranes, it will splash back and sometimes continues for a few extra pumps. A remedy I have found to make it go through the membranes is to just tip the bottles downward-like leaning shoulders forward so that there is more of a decline to better enable the milk to go down pasts the membranes. Basically just using a bit more gravily in my favor. I bet it will work for you :)

Hello. I have been using my Sonata pump five days a week, 3x per day since 1/2/19. My pumping output has really decreased. Wjat parts should I look into replacing without ordering an entire spare parts kit (I already have two sets)?

Asked by: Jblopez79
We're sorry to hear that you've had this experience. If the breast pump is suctioning well, but you are still experiencing low milk output, we would suggest taking a closer look at the sizing of your breast shields. An incorrectly sized breast shield can lead to low milk output. You'll want to also ensure that you are always pumping at your maximum comfort level and assessing that daily. Your maximum comfort level and breast shield size can change over time as your body changes or becomes more used to the suction strength. Please consider reaching out to our team if you need additional assistance and provide reference number 232139. Have a great day!

Medela Pump and Save Breastmilk Bags, 100 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D2WUR8I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_u8SlCb8J4P8CB Is this compatible with sonata? If no please suggest which pump and sace bag is compatible with sonata?I directly want to pump

Asked by: Rupali Singh
I started off pumping into Lansinoh bags which come with an adapter to attach the bags to the pump. About 3 months into pumping several times a day, I began having to place my fingers over the tubing to get it to really begin suctioning/pumping. I called Medela and was told that the Sonata is not meant to pump directly into bags. So they sent me new equipment to see if this fixed my problem and it did. So, I equate my problem to likely pumping into the bags when it is not made for that. Now, I pump into the bottles then just bag at home. I thought it would be more trouble but it’s really not. It actually is easier since attaching the bags and then taking them off the pump was very tedious and difficult. I hope this helps!

When I was and reassemble my pump parts, the next time that I pump, they take a very long time to work.  The app says that there is an air leak, but if I pull the tubing out, I feel it sucking, it just won’t work until 5-6 turn off and restarts.

Unfortunately, I had that problem too, amongst many others. I ended up having to buy replacement parts (extra tubing, etc. ). I even had to return the entire device and get a refurbished one. Which ended up not working after a few uses. In the end I bought a whole new Sonata device and that lasted me until I was done breastfeeding. GOOD LUCK!

I ordered extra tubing for my sonata. It says it is for pump in style advanced models but I have no clue if the sonata is one of those. Can you confirm if I got the correct tubing?

Asked by: Samanthargleonard
The sonata tubing is different from the pump in style tubing. Check with medela by email with customer service. They can get the right tubing to you very quickly.

Is there replacement tubing available for the Sonata?

Asked by: Lindsayak
Yes - call Medela and they will send it to you. It was free a year ago, not sure if pricing has changed.

I love this pump!! I dropped it and the face popped off. I snapped it back in place but none of the touch screen buttons are working. Is there hope for my pump? Or is it toast?
