Introducing Calma: Designed exclusively for breastmilk feeding.

Switching from bottle back to breast has never been easier. Calma was developed using evidence-based research on babies' natural feeding behavior so you can enjoy your breastfeeding bond longer.

With Calma, the milk will only flow if your baby works and creates vacuum to remove the milk. This enables the feeding behavior learned at the breast to be used with Calma.

Benefits

  • BPA-free
  • Safe for baby
  • Vented nipple
  • Helps reduce gassiness as the bottle is vented through our unique air control system.
  • Natural feeding behavior
  • Supports easy transition from bottle to breast. Research has shown that with Calma, your baby is able to maintain the learned feeding behavior that your baby exhibits when breastfeeding
  • Flow control valve
  • Allows baby to control milk flow. Milk only flows when baby creates a vacuum.
  • Calma doesn't drip
  • You can turn Calma upside down and it still won't drip. Your baby needs to apply a certain level of vacuum in order to get milk out
  • One size/shape nipple
  • For all stages of breastmilk feeding. The flow, shape and length of Calma are designed to suit your baby's needs as your baby grows
  • Compatible with all Medela breastpump bottles

My nanny uses this with my baby to feed him breastmilk from a bottle when I am at work. He does great with it, and we have no difficulty breastfeeding once I get home. So glad to have this!

I had to go back to work full time, so we were trying to find a good option for easy back and forth transition. My son will suck down a 3 oz bottle in less than 15 minutes. We tried multiple bottles and nipple. we finally tried the Calma nipple and he did really well with it. He still eats very fast, but isn't choking like he did with the other bottles

My son was born 6 weeks early (Dec. 26, 2012). After finally being released from the NICU he came home at 4.9 lbs! I was just BF when we came home and I thought we were doing great, but we had a Dr. appt just 4 days later and he was down to 4.6 lb (not good for a preemie). So the Dr. recommended switching to formula (I was devistated!). We switched but every feeding he was choking due to the constant flow coming out, even with the slow flow nipples. I heard about the Calma so I purchased 1 to see if it would work with formula. Oh my goodness! It was amazing! He is now just over 6 lb!!!!!! I am always talking up Medela in general but am very excited about the Calma Nipple!!!!! Now we have 5 and I will be purchasing more soon! :-)

My daughter and I were having trouble with breastfeeding in the beginning. My milk didn't come in until day 6. She was starving and wanted instant results. I had purchased the Calma bottle prior to her birth. I had read reviews knowing she had to be in more of a seated position than leaning back with the bottle. We ended up using this bottle with formula and it ended up being the best transition between breast and bottle. She had to work to get the formula out as she would with nursing. I was worried if we had a regular nipple, she would prefer that to the breast. This nipple relieved most of my fears. I am so glad Medela has made Calma and will never use another type of bottle or nipple!!!

My daughter is BF but when we are out I want to use pumped milk so I was not try to find a place to feed her. And all the so called Breast milk bottles would cause her reflux to go wild because the flow was way to fast even with the slow flow nipples. So our pedi recommend the Calma and after a ton of research I took leap of faith and it was the best thing we ever did she will take a bottle no problem know it did take me priming the nipple for the first coulp of time but now she does not have any trouble. And her reflux has gotten better when she has a bottle. And we even got to demo the nipple for the lactation department.

When I first learned about the Calma bottle, I was so excited to try it. I was relieved that the bottle lived up to the hype! I first used the bottle when my baby girl was 7 weeks old. She is exclusively breastfed, but I needed her to be able to use a bottle when I was away 2 or 3 times a week. It took her several attempts to get the hang of it (just like breastfeeding did), but she is now drinking breastmilk from the Calma bottle easily and happily. The best part is that she transitions back to the breast without any trouble, which was a fear I had since it didn't go so well without Calma with my two-year old son. I won't use any other bottle again...EVER! I will definitely recommend this product to all of my nursing friends.

I first introduced this bottle to my son at 3 months - he was exclusively breastfed. After several attempts to find a bottle that he liked and a lot of money spent on empty bottles in my cabinet I found Calma when ordering supplies for my pump to go back to work. He took to the nipple with no problem and can switch back and forth with ease. I like that my son can control the flow so that he doesn't get frustrated. I could not be happier and it's probably the best $20 I have spent.....should have started at Medela first.

I have been so happy with the calma nipple. My son doesn't spit up like he did with the regular nipple. It has even helped him when he nurses to be more efficient. It does require some stronger sucking muscles but it was exactly what we needed. I'm so happy with this product & really all of the medela products I have used!

As a NICU nurse and lactation counselor I was excited to try the calma with my first baby. I was hoping not to have to use it for a while and exclusively breastfeed, but due to breastmilk jaundice had to change my son to formula / bottle fed for 48 hours at 1 week of age. I was affraid he wouldn't want to breastfeed again after the 48 hours but he transitioned back just fine, and has been able to go between breast and bottle without a problem ever since. The flow of the calma is not an issue for my son. I have always been impressed with Medela as a company through working with them in my lactation counselor role. As a mother I was equally impressed when I called the customer support line when the middle peice of the calma nipple got a hole in it. Medela customer support was great and sent another nipple out to me free of charge. Thanks Medela!

My son is 7-weeks-old and was exclusively breastfed for the first 6 weeks, until he caught a cold from my daughter that turned into a bad respiratory infection and caused him to be admitted to the hospital, because he would not eat and was dehydrated. They gave him saline and glucose via IV to rehydrate him and I pumped my milk until he was ready to eat again. The doctor wanted me to feed him through a bottle, so we could gauge how much milk he was getting. Well, I didn't want to use the regular rubber nipples they give at the hospital, because I was afraid he'd get nipple confusion. So, the first bottle I tried was the First Years Breastflow bottle which advertises that it mimics actual breastfeeding, however, he HATED the nipple and rejected it. Next, we tried the regular slow flow Medela nipple and he took it, but I didn't like it because it dripped even when he wasn't sucking and let out too much milk. So, I was surfing the Medela web site and saw the advertisement for the Calma Nipple. I went and purchased two, but only opened one, just in case he rejected it (so I could take the other back). He loved this nipple. He caught on right away. See, I have really large nipples, so the length of the Calma is not a problem for him. I also like the fact that he has to work for his milk, just like the breast. And since this nipple is more firm than the breast, he has to suck a little bit harder to get the milk. This has actually helped to improve his regular breastfeeding latch. Now, he transitions back and forth from breast to bottle like a pro. I love this nipple and would definitely recommend it to nursing moms!!!

Hen I first started using calms I noticed that yes the nipple was not at all an ideal feeling or looking nipple. My daughter at first spit it out, I then remembered that a nurse had told me in order for baby to get the suckling motion, you have to rub the nipple against the roof of the mouth. I did that and instantly she got the hang of it. I love it, she actually has to work to get her food. Unlike regular bottle she can just nibble on and milk comes spilling out. I love this bottle it was defiantly money well spent!

As I am getting ready to go back to work, I needed to introduce the bottle to my daughter. As I read the reviews I do agree that the milk comes out a little fast, but my daughter has adjusted just well. I do like that I have been able to go from bottle to breast with no problem throughout the day. The only downside to the price.

I only bought one because I didn't know if it would work, and now I need more!! For those saying it's too long, during the first minutes of feeding my baby would just suck the very tip of the Calma, but eventually he gets the whole nipple in his mouth.

I love this bottle. I first heard about it from a woman in my breast feeding support group and I have to say it was the best $20 I ever spent. My son doesn't prefer the bottle over the breast but he does not have a problem with switching back and forth. I was super hesitant on giving him a bottle but I introduced this bottle to him at 2 weeks old and he does great. I wish it was a little harder for him to get the milk out because he makes a bit of a mess when i feed him with the bottle but I just make sure to have a bib and soft towel in hand to clean up as he's a messy eater. I would definitely recommend this bottle to all breastfeeding and non breast feeding mothers. Great Product

My baby was admitted to hospital due to Jaundice (Day 4-6), and during that period of time, there was no choice but to put her on bottle. Was so afraid she will have nipple confusion and so we tried Calma (introduced to us at a Medela BF forum) ... When she came home, she was superb moving between breast and bottle. I believe her latching skills actually improved after using the bottle.

My baby is little over 5 weeks old and until now exclusivly BF. I was so affraid of her refusing to take a bottle and/or have nipple confusion. But we tried Calma and everything went super smooth! She did great. Just remember try this nipple before any other as recommended for best results. I am thrilled that Calma is finally in US!

I look forward to try this one!! My son used the Breast Flow system, which worked, but the nipple kept collapsing on him. I've been patiently waiting for someone to come out with a new design that works. I'm blessed right now that my daughter, being diagnosed with a heart condition so bottle feeding has been a must to ensure she doesn't burn to many calories while feeding, easily switches from the current Medela nipples to breast. I'm so excited to try I look forward to having a our next bundle. Gotta wait a bit cause she's only 2 months.

I would love to review this!!! I have been wondering how long it would be until someone looked at how a baby naturally nurses and create a bottle that will work. I had a baby 3 years ago that I NEEDED this bottle to train him with until he got stronger. But I am having a baby in about 3 weeks and I would love to try this bottle!!

The idea of the bottle is great. I really like it. sometimes the baby doesn't seem to like it cause he is used to other bottles because Grandma does not like the Calma. She says she cant tell if he is getting anything with the Calma, I tried to explain to her the concept of the Calma but I still notice it not getting used. When I feed the baby with a bottle I use the Calma and he seems fine with it. I have heard a few mommies complain about it leaking but I have not experienced anything like this at all. Overall I would say its a good bottle, I love the fact that it will make the baby eat a bottle like the breast.

My baby can control the flow of milk well and doesn't choke like he did with other nipples. I love that he has to work for the milk. Only downside is the price, which is why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. Of note is I have pretty small nipples, and my baby has no trouble with the length of this one.

I've been using your Medela bottle 150ml even since my son was born(8 1/2 months now). Pros: the nipple-the best on the market. Cons: The cap of the bottle is very hard to close/snap. It's very frustrating especially in the middle of the night when you are tired and baby's screaming. Also, the numbers on the bottle have already disappeared. I now guess how much water to use because you can't see.To clean it, I scrub the inside and boil the bottle. For the price of the bottle and the brilliant concept behind the nipple, I would expect that such simple things wouldn't be an issue.

I love the medela Calma bottles, my 4 month old drinks with ease and has no more problems with chocking from the flow being too fast. The milk only flows when she forces it to so it is her speed. I give the bottle 4 starts because I wish the price would go down. They are worth every penny and I strongly recommend these but I don't see anybody using these alone based on price. I mean come on Medela $25 for one nipple system and 2 bottles? Really? If your willing to spend the extra cash then I strongly recommend thease

We love the Calma nipple and won't use any other nipple even though we have had a few slight problems with them. We made the mistake of letting the bottle heat up in a bowl of warm water with the calma nipple already on and the began leaking both from the tip and under the threads. However, Medela has been great and replaced, free of charge, both nipples that had this happen to. We do now heat the bottles with a regular lid on and rinse the nipple after using to keep the milk from drying inside the parts. A little bit of extra work, but works great while breastfeeding!
