Medela has combined both the Preemie+ 1.0 program and the Standard 2.0 program onto one easy-to-use Preemie+ program card. This allows mother of premature infants to use one pump to initiate and maintain her milk supply.
Initiation – Preemie+ 1.0
The Preemie+ 1.0 program is designed to get pump dependent mothers started breastpumping. Its new unique burst/pause pattern is clinically shown to help mothers of premature infants initiate milk flow as it mimics baby’s first sucking pattern after birth.
IMPORTANT – You should only use the Preemie+ 1.0 program until you achieve 3 consecutive pumping sessions, each totaling 20 mLs. Once you have achieved this, you should switch to the Standard 2.0 program.
2-Phase Expression® - Standard 2.0
The combination of the two programs has been clinically shown to allow mothers of premature infants to provide significantly greater milk output in fewer minutes pumping.

I had an emergency c-section 3 weeks ago to deliver my miracle 24 week and 5 day old son. The hospital I was at was amazing and within 24 hours of having him, they hooked me up to the Medela Preemie. At first, like many (c-section or not) I got barely a few drops. But after pumping every 2 hours, by the end of the 2nd day I was already getting a few ounces each time! By the time I was discharged from the hospital his mini freezer in the NICU was almost filled with milk!
I am using a different pump when I am at work and it takes sooooo much longer to get even half the amount as when I use the Medela. I HIGHLY recommend the Medela Preemie, and if I could afford it, would definitely spend the money to have one at home and not just at the hospital.
