Rated 4 out of 5 by from Using it overseas What do I do if the product does not work in India ? I checked with the local madella but they don't have the spare parts for this. Also, will it work with a step down voltage adapter?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No housing for pump This is a good pump. Keep in mind though, the only product here that the pump is removable from the bag is the Metro bag. With the other two, they are *very* firmly velcroed into place, and are not designed to be removed. The pump it's self does not have a housing and must be stored in the bag. The little bag that comes with the Metro tote is not available for purchase separately. If the pump had a complete housing, or if you could purchase the small bag separately I would give this 5 stars. Having to keep it in the gigantic tote bag is very inconvenient for home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love It! The best *free [through insurance] pump a working mom can get. Really efficient and helped me build up my supply while on leave. I would pump 1 breast while baby nursed on other, then switched. I really love this pump and used it with all 3 kids. Only reason why I'm giving 4 stars not 5 is due to the breast shields. Wish they were easier to take apart and clean. Also storage bags for milk a little pricey. A pack of 50 almost costs as much as a can of formula. I think they should be cheaper due to its necessity and cost of pump(s). But overall its a great pump, and I love that I was fortunate enough to be provided one by my insurance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Challenging but beneficial Difficult to turn on and off due to the location and size of the knob. Makes it extremely hard to manuever even with one hand free. The 2nd let down feature is helpful in greater emptying of the breast and the pump overall is very efficient. Convenient bag that also makes carrying it discrete.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Weak after awhile So I received this pump free through my insurance. Very quickly I had to get a new one. When pumping with this it was great, until about a month into using it. I used it daily, many times a day, very religiously. It ended up not being able to suck the milk out efficiently after a month, I would have it on its highest settings and nothing. I ended up getting a spectra s2 and my god it's amazing, I use it just as often as I did my medela and over 3 times a long a time and it's still just like it was when I first bought it, perfect. This would be a great traveling pump but I don't think it was designed to be used 4+ times a day every day for 20+ min increments. I love medela but this was a little disappointing after hearing how amazing they are.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't Meet Expectations This pump did not work well for me. 1. It barely had any suction and I am unable to rely on it to pump enough milk. 2. When the bottle is connected to the shield, it falls over. Not a good design. The shields included with the pump are garbage. They do not suction or stay in position against the breast as it should. Very disappointed. Wish I had some options.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Uncomfortable I got this before baby arrived and started using when baby was about 1 month old. Every single setting (and flange size) I tried it was uncomfortable. You have to sit next to a plug in to use it (the battery pack lasts 3 pumps only and takes 4 batteries!). I ended up needing to pump exclusively at 3 months and the Spectra saved me

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap pump I am highly disappointed with my purchase of this pump. I started with the spectra s2 from my insurance. The PISA just looked so nice and portable that I thought I just had to have one. I have been using this pump for over 3 weeks and still cannot get my milk to express with this pump. I have spent even more money on shields because that's what they said was wrong when I called customer service. I am so upset that I purchased this pump. It doesn't have near the settings or suction of my spectra and cost almost twice as much. I'm highly disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not impressed I got this pump about 3 months ago and am really disappointed with it. I think it's terrible that you can not adjust speed and suction separately. The let down feature is ok. The speed is a little fast for me before let down making it a little uncomfortable even though I've only turned the knob enough for it to be on and the speed is a little too slow after the let down feature but if I turn it up the suction seems to hard then. It is also on the louder side not as discreet as some others. Of the several brands of pumps I've tried this ranks the worst. The bags and storage bottles are the only nice part.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from An OK pump Requires for additional investment on rechargeable batteries or a step up/down adaptor for users outside the US experiencing voltage difference. It would also be ideal to include the different shield sizes. What's with the mist on the tubes? Otherwise works OK

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sheilds are wayyyy too big and PAINFULL!!! After spending over $300 I should not have to spend an extra $20 just because I was not blessed with good sized boobs. Trying to use the medium shield my nipples swelled to twoce their size and after pumping became so excruciatingly painful!! Terrible!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would give no stars if I could I bought the freestyle version and let me tell you, what a waste of money. I’ve been in touch with their corporate since day one due to non working parts. They’ve been helpful but when one purchases a breast pump that cost well above $300, that shoukd not be happening. We should have every confidence in this product. In this case, no way! I received parts and I sent non working parts back to them. It’s been exactly 2 months later and now I don’t have a suction on both breast. I purchased different tube and different flange size and still the suction is poor. This product is ridiculous, shame on Medela. I need to produce milk, it’s my baby’s way of supplementing. If I could I could return this product and buy another pump not affiliated with Medela I totally would in a heartbeat. Good luck moms. Purchase at your own risk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low vacuum power I had a unit sent to me thru my insurance I tried it and the vacuum suction powered was low. Hooked the set up up to another brand pump I had borrowed from a friend and it was fine put the tubing back on the PISA and super low suction. Called Medela and troubleshooted and still low suction so they sent me another new unit because it was still covered under warranty. Same problem with that unit low to no suction. Even turned all the way up it barely pulls my nipple in even a little bit. I don’t know what to do but I wasted my insurance on a pump I can’t use and can’t return to get a different or better pump.

Since Medela is in the market for such a long time, why Medela did not manufacture a close system. Isnt it a high risk since it can lead to mold grow within the tubing?

Asked by: Esth
Hi Esth--- In the market, the term "closed" refers to a membrane that blocks milk from entering the tubing or motor. Medela calls this membrane Overflow Protection, and it is part of every Medela double electric breast pump, both personal-use and hospital-grade (multi-user) breast pumps. Medela breast pumps are therefore, by market definition, considered to be closed systems. Our Symphony and Pump in Style Advanced have this Overflow Protection at the pump. Our Freestyle and Sonata have the Overflow Protection at the Breast Shield Connector. In a breast pump system where air is used to create vacuum, there truly is no such thing as a “closed” breast pump system. Air is needed in the system to release the vacuum, and allows air from the environment into the system, hence making it an “open” system. However, many brands on the market utilize the “closed” term as a description relating to milk getting into tubing or motor of the pump, versus relating to environmental elements entering the system. We hope you find this information helpful. If you have further questions, please feel free to chat with us on our website. We're always happy to help!

Can this pumps 9v car charger be used in a vehicle with 12v chargers?

Asked by: JayW
Hi JayW--- The output of the Medela 9V car lighter adapter is 9 Volts. It’s input rating is intended for 12V which is the nominal output voltage of a vehicle lighter adapter. You would want to check your car manual to ensure that it is intended to be used with these specifications. Feel free to chat with us on our website if you have any further questions!

Is there any way that breast milk can become stuck or get in the motor? Can you replace the tubing and breast shields (if thats what theyre called)?

Asked by: bc314
Hi bc314--- It is possible that it could occur although highly unlikely. If breast milk has traveled through the tubing and behind the faceplate, the faceplate can be removed and the milk can be wiped down from behind it. It rarely makes it into the motor itself unless there was previous damage such as tears or cracks. The tubing and breast shields can be purchased separately as well if ever necessary. Please reach out to our team if you need further assistance. We'd be happy to help!

Hi. I hear a hissng sound from one one breast/breast pump as I pump (Medala in style). Is this normal/fine? I have checked to make sure everything is secure.

Asked by: KJ Asry

I've had my Pump in Style Advanced starter Kit for about 6-7 months now, however, the machine is beginning to cause problems regarding suctioning. It began with the left side, but now both sides are causing the same problem. What should I do?
