Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pump by far This pump was a lifesaver. I did not have maternity leave when I had my baby so I had to return to work within a few weeks of delivery. This pump is built into the bag so it travels well. It made it very easy to carry it to work, pump quickly and store my milk in the travel cooler. I used this pump for almost 14 months and never had a loss of suction or any trouble. Definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I rented a pump from the hospital with my first kid in 2015. We decided to buy one instead this time and choose this one. So glad we did! It's just as good, if not better than the hospital-grade one. I love that it's attached to the bag so everything is portable. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PUMP IN STYLE ADVANCED/BASIC PUMP NO EXTRAS I AM AN EXCLUSIVE PUMPER ONLY.. THIS PUMP IS GREAT! I AM A 1ST TIME MOM WHO WAS NOT PLANNING ON BREAST FEEDING BUT DUE TO SOME COMPLICATIONS DURING BIRTH THE DRS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BREAST MILK FOR MY SON. IT IS AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF WORK CONSIDERING I AM A 911 DISPATCHER AND I WORK SWING SHIFTS.. DIFFRENT EVERY WEEK. THIS PUMP IS SMALL BUT POWERFUL! ALTHOUGH I THINK I MAY BE WEARING IT OUT .. I THINK IT HAS LOST SOME SUCTION POWER.. I HOPE IT HOLDS ON AND KEEPS WORKING FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS UNTIL I CAN SWITCH MY SON TO WHOLE MILK. I HAVE TOLD MY AUNT WHO ALSO RECENTLY HAD A BABY AND IS NOW A MEDELA PUMP OWNER AND ALSO SEVERAL FRIENDS! THEY ALSO LOVE MEDELA!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this pump! I have already 10 months with this pump. I used it daily at work and also at home. So easy and efficient to use. One of the biggest contributors of my success on giving my baby only breast milk, is this pump. I would totally recommend this pump!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pump I have the Pump In Style from my first pregnancy over four years ago. I got a new hospital grade pump (different brand) through my insurance and was so excited to use it, but have been really disappointed in it. I ended up going back to my Medela pump and I'm much more comfortable. It's so much simpler, too, no confusing trial and errors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great breast pump If until now I was able to start the day by pumping 200ml milk, now I'm able to go up to 260ml which is amazing. It's a great pump for work, saved time and with the Medela pumping bra you're good to go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a relief from using EvenFlo in the past I chose the Medela breastpump simply because my hospital used it and after trying out theirs and liking it and finding out my health insurance would pay for breastpump supplies. With my first child, I used an EvenFlo pump that was really loud and hurt to use. With my second child, I expressed my concerns with the lactation nurse and she had me try out their Medela pump and even tried different breastshields for an appropriate fit and pump efficiency. I couldn’t be more satisfied! This pump comes with size 24 breastshields (not my size- I ordered the Choose Your size breastshields from Walmart.com). The pump is quiet enough to use in the same room with a sleeping baby, while watching tv, at night, etc. It has two pumping stages: the first helps to make your milk "let down" and then it goes into "sucking" mode. It lets you dial up the sucking pressure to your comfort level/tolerance. You can pump one breast or both if you wish. You can also use batteries to run your pump if you're away from a wall socket. The four storage bottles are a nice addition to the unit as it can be carried separately in its own tote with a freezable cooling pack or the entire tote can be carried inside the larger tote. This pump is super easy to use, but I found there are a lot of youtubers who've made instruction videos for newbies:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it!!! The PISA is Medela's popular double electric pump. It comes highly recommended, so right before Baby Namastè was born, I went and got one. (Enter good information--your insurance may cover all or part of the cost for a breast pump! Do look into it.) Now...I am a traveling mommy. I like convenient, portable, and uncomplicated gear for my adventures. Naturally, I chose the PISA with the backpack. I love how it doesn't scream, BREAST PUMP BAG!!! It's actually pretty sleek, yet has a good amount of storage. When I'm out with it, it literally becomes my purse. It even has a pouch on the side for a water bottle, and we all know how important hydration is for nursing/pumping moms. The PISA itself is small but rather solid. It's very straightforward. The motor is inside a canvas like case, with velcro closures and a small strap atop it for carrying. It came with two 5 ounce bottles & caps, a set of 24 mm flanges (I call them horns!), a set of tubing, and a set of valves and connectors. I have traveled many times with the PISA. It's not cumbersome. The car adaptor gives the same power as its power cord. And the battery pack has made pumping easy in some of my more interesting sessions (the Circle Line cruise in NYC, Maggiano's restaurant here in Georgia--I could go on but you get the point. I feed my son anywhere, and I pump [almost] anywhere!!!) The only con I can think of for the PISA is that the tubing can gather condensation. Easily fixed, by simply hooking up the power cord and tubes and letting go the pump run for a few minutes. Definitely not a deal breaker. I'm six months strong with my PISA and haven't had any mechanical problems. I honestly feel like it has helped me continue breastfeeding as long as I have. Pumping is time consuming, but with good equipment and quality customer service, it's well worth it to invest in the Medela PISA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Worth the Price! After purchasing the Medela Swing breast pump and it not working as well as we hoped, I broke down and purchased the Medela advanced. Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent product This pump is great! It is essential for someone like me who needed help getting a good milk supply going. It's suction is as close to baby's as you can get (I have tried other pumps with previous babies). I would definitely recommend this to all mom's who need a pump!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome sauce! Everyone is always telling me that this pump is better or this one is covered through most insurances. I got six different pumps and decided this medela double electric piranhas got to be by far the best I have. I express three times as much milk as I do with the others. Before hand I was only getting out 1-2 oz out of both breasts together now I'm getting out 3-4 oz out of both breasts each and im putting away 3 bags of milk in the freezer each day and they are both five ounces a piece. I use a little milk for her vitamin and gripe water to help with her belly at night. All in all this breast pump is amazing and totally worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great. Never would know whats in it. This breast pump is great. I looks like a normal bag but everything you will need is in it. I have not started using it yet but think that it is going to work out really great for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for an exclusive pumper I got a pump through my insurance but I wanted a second pump to use on the go. Since I was exclusively pumping and planned on continuing for a year or so I figured it was worth the investment. I was right! It's so nice to have this pump in a bag that's ready to go whenever I need to grab it. I keep it in the nursery where the diaper bag goes so when we are on the go I can grab it, put some pump parts in a ziplock bag and go! I've used this pump just about anywhere. The bag keeps the pump from being too loud which is a huge plus! I would really recommend getting the battery pack and/or the car adapter to use with this pump. They have saved me so many times when I needed to pump in the car. Also, another tip is to get a nursing cover to use if you need to pump in the car.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pump! This pump works great! It does everything that it states and I absolutely love the suckling feature to get your milk to let down. This feature seems to cut pumping time in half and with going back to work this pump is well worth the money you spend.

Date published: 2015-05-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great pump I've used this and the hospital grade Symphony I really couldn't tell the difference in how well they worked. My insurance reimbursed me 100%, so that was an extra plus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable & Efficient This pump has now gotten me through nearly 12 months (6 weeks old-12 months) of pumping 3X a day, 5 days a week, TWICE. It has worked beautifully and has been reliable for both of my children, and is packed away awaiting use for #3. Just like nursing, it takes some getting used to and there is a learning curve and a period where it seems very awkward, but over time it gets easier and more natural. The variable pumping speeds & suction levels were always nice to be able to adjust as needed during the pumping session. There are a variety of sizes of breast shields available for all sized women, and the parts for this pump are readily available at most baby stores, which was a huge plus for me. I would not hesitate to purchase another, if I were to do it again.

Hi! I am planning to buy medela pump in style because my baby doesn't breastfeed. I am planning to travel to India but am unsure if the pump would work there because of difference in power voltage. Eould it work with an adapter?

Asked by: T2108
We do not recommend using our Medela Pump in Style Advanced with the power adapter when travelling outside of the U.S. The only recommended power options would be the 9V Portable Vehicle Adapter or 8-count Battery Pack.

Why is there a hole in the port plug?

Asked by: hlyswlt
The opening located on the port plug and on the port cap are both intended to be there to allow for some air leak and to help with vacuum control within the device. Please consider chatting with us on our website if you have any additional questions. We'd be happy to help!

Since Medela is in the market for such a long time, why Medela did not manufacture a close system. Isnt it a high risk since it can lead to mold grow within the tubing?

Asked by: Esth
Hi Esth--- In the market, the term "closed" refers to a membrane that blocks milk from entering the tubing or motor. Medela calls this membrane Overflow Protection, and it is part of every Medela double electric breast pump, both personal-use and hospital-grade (multi-user) breast pumps. Medela breast pumps are therefore, by market definition, considered to be closed systems. Our Symphony and Pump in Style Advanced have this Overflow Protection at the pump. Our Freestyle and Sonata have the Overflow Protection at the Breast Shield Connector. In a breast pump system where air is used to create vacuum, there truly is no such thing as a “closed” breast pump system. Air is needed in the system to release the vacuum, and allows air from the environment into the system, hence making it an “open” system. However, many brands on the market utilize the “closed” term as a description relating to milk getting into tubing or motor of the pump, versus relating to environmental elements entering the system. We hope you find this information helpful. If you have further questions, please feel free to chat with us on our website. We're always happy to help!

Is there any way that breast milk can become stuck or get in the motor? Can you replace the tubing and breast shields (if thats what theyre called)?

Asked by: bc314
Hi bc314--- It is possible that it could occur although highly unlikely. If breast milk has traveled through the tubing and behind the faceplate, the faceplate can be removed and the milk can be wiped down from behind it. It rarely makes it into the motor itself unless there was previous damage such as tears or cracks. The tubing and breast shields can be purchased separately as well if ever necessary. Please reach out to our team if you need further assistance. We'd be happy to help!
