The pump worked great! I used it for 6 months with my first son. My son had trouble lactating on so I never took him to breast. I only used my pump. Because I'm a stay at home mom I decided to go for the Metro Bag, so the pump could come out of the bag and onto the table. Worked out amazing. I moved it from room to room, took it places with me. I liked that I could use my normal diaper bag as well, and didn't have to worry that the pump was attached to a bag. Couldn't ask for a better pump.

Great pump! I love it! I don't think there could be any better pump for me. Well worth the money. The tote is great quality. Not too heavy, plenty of space. Great job Medela. I Highly recommend!

This thing is awesome. Granted, it was not as cheap as other pumps but this pump is worth every penny! Pumping at work is a breeze. One less thing to stress about. However, finding the correct fitting shield is the key. If your having issues call the awesome customer service and they can help you out.

I wasn't able to nurse my baby and decided to pump exclusively. It is now almost 6 weeks and I've used the pump everyday. I have a stash of extra milk in the freezer and am glad I able to give my baby breast milk at every feeding. I have had no problems with the pump at all. Works great. SIDE NOTE: For anyone who has to supplement with formula due to baby losing weight after birth, don't use a bottle. There are other options but no one told me. And refuse the pacifier that they give you at the hospital. Supplementing with a bottle and a pacifier both interfere with efforts to breastfeed.

Hi Tammy Hanlon, I am having the same problem as you in breastfeeding my newborn. what are the other options you know? Kindly share with me. I am intending to get a set of medela pump to feed my newborn to make sure she gains back her weight.

I had a C/S and was out for the night. The hospital without asking me already gave the baby the bottles...I am not sure if that was the cause but my milk never came until few days later and I do not have enough. Thus, I have to give both breast milk and formula to supplement. Up until today, my milk supply is still inadequate. I try to feed or pump every 3 hours but I do not have any milk to give. My milk let down about every 5-6 hours or so. I have tried a lot of tricks without prevails...I feel the electronic pumper does not empty my milk as well as the hand pump but the hand pump gives my hands cramps and sore knuckle.

I had the same problem with breastfeeding and the "latch". My daughter would constantly wiggle all over and cry and pull on and off of the breast. The other option are using a tubing method which requires a little time and effort. You use a syringe and fill it with breastmilk or formula and use a medical tube to slip into the side of baby's mouth while at the breast. I tried it and it was messy but it gives the baby the reward of sucking at the breast while still nourishing the baby. It also allows the sucking to still happen at the breast which will help your milk supply. I visited a place called Milkworks and this is how I know. They tried to help me a ton and I pretty much exclusively pump all day and night. I too do not have enough milk but am working on building up my supply. You can also use a glove and feed the tubing attached to the syringe through the finger and feed that way. Cut a small slit at the end of the finger of glove before you put it on though....if you need help ask any healthcare professional and they should be able to help/show you how to do it. Hope this helps! Good Luck

Not a good idea for a pump dependent mother, to use a pump that is not designed for pumping morning, noon and night. Use a hospital grade double electric pump, which would be the Medela Symphony. Great ideas with the supplemental nursing system at the breast, but for short term emergency you can spoon feed after you breastfeed, but I would only recommend that for the short term. Medela has disclosed that the Pump in Style Advanced is for pumping a couple times a day.

I actually received a used one from my sister in law while traveling and loved it. She had for a few years, so she got tons of use out of it and then I used it for a few months everyday a couple of times a day. I am currently waiting for a new one to arrive! I love love love it!!!!

I returned to work full-time when my son was 12 weeks old and my PISA Metro bag came with me every day. Not only was I able to pump enough to feed him during the day but I donated over 500 ounces to a milk bank. I pumped for my son till he was 14 months old. In total I pumped over 30 gallons with this bad boy! If you're a working mom this pump is an investment that is well worth it.

I will tell all my friends and family members about the great service I recieved. This company is very lucky to have such a great employee. If anyone needs assist just ask for Mary. GREAT customer service.

Breastfeeding didn't work out for us and I insisted on exclusively pumping. A friend of mine loaned me her PISA a few days after birth while we were having breastfeeding issues. A month later I bought my own and it helped me feed my son for a year. It was easy to use, I love the let down feature. I wish it came with more than one set of flanges (different sizes) as not everyone is a size 24 but after trying a size 27s all my issues disappeared. It was used 2 hours a day for 365 days and still works like it's new. Yeah I've had to replace membranes and parts but I like to think of it as a car, initial payment plus maintenance. Still way cheaper than formula! Love it so much!
Heather Kokinchak More than 1 year ago
This pump is great. Super simple to use, I bring it everywhere and the car adapter is great! I get all my pumps in on the way to and from work bc it's compacts and quick!

I am so pleased with my Pump in Style. I have five children that have all benifitted from it since 2001. I purchased it at the end of 2000, and wondered how it would actually work. I recently had it tested so I could go back to work, and the suction is still fantastic. On one side it is just slightly weaker, but it still registers as very good. I do change the tubing out occasionally, but that is to be expected, given the time I have had it. I am so greatful for the quality of the products that you offer. My shoulder beg still looks new. The only way that I could be more pleased, is to actually be nursing my little one at home instead of pumping from afar. Thank you once again Medela!

I was a first time mother and 34 weeks along when I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia. I found out I would have to be induced immediately and after they did, I found out they had been wrong about his position and he was breech. One emergency c-section later and I was stuck with no milk supply. I was able to use the Hospital grade pumps while I was there but when I went home I decided to buy a cheap $40 evenflow pump. It tour up my nipples. After trying with it for a few more weeks I was sick of the pain and decided to invest in a Medela breast pump. Immediately I was better off. I was able to supply him with a good amount of breast milk before I dried up. This pump has had it's kinks, but honestly, if you use it right and follow the instruction manual it will last you forever. I am now on my third child. I pump at least 5 times a day for at least 30 minutes at a time and I breastfeed at times. For a non hospital grade pump, this is the best you will get for your money and when this one eventually wears out I will definitely purchase another. Well worth the money!

I love this pump. It works great! I was about to switch to forumla as well but this pump is already helping me pump more then my medela manal one. Thanks so much ! I Love this pump!
Aja Nozaki More than 1 year ago
I absolutely love this pump. After struggling with my LO's latch this pump helped me nourish my son as well as build my supply. For suction issues, remove the face plate and clean the actual pump with a damp not wet cloth and let it air dry thoroughly (see YouTube tutorial) also for condensation in tubing, allow the pump to run for a minute or so after disconnecting breast shields, this should keep them dry and prevent mold from developing. For tubes with milk or spillage in them wash and sterilize, then keep shields as level as possible during pumping sessions to prevent spilling your precious milk. Also as with any product out there it takes care and effort to work, some patience and research will go a long way also. Overall this pump is fast, efficient, and user friendly, well worth the investment, after all you can't put a price on the health of your new baby!

My mother-in-law got me the pump as a gift and it is the of the most important accessories to help me care for my little guy. I use the backpack also as a diaper bag. The battery operated option has allowed me to pump anywhere I need to and it only uses 8 AA batteries and provides the same strength as if plugged in. The pump will empty out you breast! The pump is easy to use, but I recommend getting a hands free Medela bra to use at work or to better multi-task while pumping. Breast pumps aren't cheap but if you pretty much exclusively plan to pump it is worth the investment to get the best!

As a third time mom, I nursed my last two children (now 5 years old, and 10 months) and I love love love this pump. With my second child, he nursed everywhere I went so there was no need to take the pump with me, but I continued to pump until he turned a year old. With my third and last child, she was too distracted to nurse when I was out, so I always carry my pump with me just in case and I take this with me everywhere! I took my oldest son (a teenager) to a NBA game and excused myself to pump, we went to Kings Dominion amusement park and I could pump, if we are at a doctor's office or anywhere and I know it's time, I will very discreetly get to pumping!!! This pump has not failed me yet, and at six years old, it is still running strong and I only had to replace the tubing for a third time just recently. With all of the wear and tear, unfortunately, my bag has torn and ripped at the seam, but you can tell I have used it with every inch it can be used. I love the look of it, I can use it as a purse in addtion to storing the small Medela bottles, and once I discovered the hands-free bra, I was in seventh heaven and wish I had this bra with my second child. I have read other reviews about having to replace parts so often but I think it may be because when you wash or steam the tubing, it isn't allowed to dry completely which causes the water to remain inside which can mold. This pump was a gift, but even if I had purchased it myself, I would still be pleased and have recommended it to my girlfriends who have decided to nurse their babies too.

I bought the pump in style advanced based on a friend's recommendation when I had to return to work at 8 weeks. I breastfed my first one for 2 years and I wanted to do the same with my second one. Medalla helped me do it. The tote bag is so cool not many (except those who used this pump) in my office really knew that i headed out to pump during work! It also helped me boost my supply whenever I needed. I always had little extra than what my baby consumed. Overall I strongly strongly recommend this pump especially if you are a working mom and serisouly plan to breast feed. Its a worth investment. I used to express both sides in 10 minutes and clean it up in 5 minutes! it was super quick. At one time I had some issues with the suction. I called up the customer service and after troubleshooting, they assured me to send the replacement the next day as it was within the warrenty period. They air shipped me the new pump and I had the new pump at my door within 20 hours of calling them!!! I give 5 stars not just for the pump but also for the fabolous customer service and curtious response of the customer service folks. Very good product and great service. Can't be any better! Thank you Medala.

While completely unattractive, my pump has been a lifesaver. I was able to get a pump thru ins 0 cost to us. I returned to work after 16 wks ML and use it no less than 2-4 times a day. I would definitely say that this is a must for the working mom. My production has maintained even when my husband and I went on a 6 day vacay w/o the baby. I will say that it is suggested that you either purchase another pump or service your pump if you decide to use it after 12 mons of continuous use. The baby is now 6mons old and i have had zero suction issues to date. Once off work, i exclusively latch to maintain production and bonding time. Check w/ ins first. Mine doesn't look those on the site, but it works well. No complaints. Side note I would have bought one if ins did not cover. Lactation consultants typically suggest 2 brands for best suction, Medela is one.

MY BABY WAS A MONTH EARLY, SO I HAD TO USE THE HOSPITAL,WHICH THEY HAD MEDELA PUMP (Symphony® Preemie+™ Breastpump )AND I HAD BROUGHT MY OWN PUMP THE AMEDA BUT IT DID NOT WORK. BUT MEDELA DID IT GOT MY MILK STARTED. IT TOOK A MONTH FOR MY MILK TO REALLY COME, PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAN HOW HARD AND PATIENTS BREAST FEEDING IS!!! I HATED PUMPING WITH AMEDA IT WOULD TAKE FOR EVER TO PUMP. TWO MONTHS LATER AFTER ASKING MY FRIENDS. I DECIDED TO SPEND ANOTHER $246 ON MEDELA, MY FIRST PUMP AMEDA HAS EVERYTHING MEDELA HAD MY HUSBAND SAID WHEN WE WAS AT TARGET TRYING TO FIGURE WHAT TO GET HE SAID BUY THE AMEDA HAS ONE EXTRA ICE PACK, WRONG AMEDA IS TOO MUCH TIME CONSUMING AND IT MADE ME NOT WANT TO PUMP, AND FOR RECORD ALL PUMP MAKE SAME PUMPING NOISE . BUT MEDELA IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!! IT WORTH THE MONEY --- YES A LOT FOR THE PUMP BUT DO MATH CHEAPER TO BREASTFEED THEN TO BUY SIMLAC. THIS PUMP IS A TIME SAVER. FOR THE RECORD MY BABY WOULD NOT LATCH, SHE DIDNT KNOW HOW TO LATCH, BUT I KEPT TRYING, I WAS AT HOSPITAL WITH HER 4 DAYS AND WE SAW A LATICIAN AT FORT HOOD AND SHE WAS GREAT SHE HELP ME, ON THE THIRD DAY MY BABY LATCH , BUT REMEMBER TO PUT THE CREAM ON NIPPLES AND LET THEM HEAL, I DID HAVE TO GIVE MY BABY SIMILAC HERE AND THERE, I DID USE SIMILAC READY TO GO I USE ONE FOR TWO WEEKS BECAUSE I BREAST FED CAUSE I HAD NO BREAST MILK SAVED, NOW ITS FAST I USE MY NEW PUMP MEDELA AND I HAVE EXTRA MILK. ITS HARD BEIGN ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY,BECAUSE FROM 5:15 AM TO 6PM IM NOT FEEDING MY BABY BUT MY MEDELA AGAIN IS THE BEST!!!!

I used this to exclusively pump 16 months total for both my kids. It worked great up until the day the motor died on me. Otherwise I would have used it longer. I agree the backpack didn't have much room to put all of my necessities for pumping on the go. I've never used the metro bag though either. Had I known from the beginning that I'd be exclusively pumping, I would have invested in a higher grade pump.

This pump works great. The only problem is, a couple of months after I bought it one of the prongs just broke off. Unfortunately, I missed the grace period for the warranty and it will cost $35 plus shipping to fix a tiny little prong :( Pretty disappointed that it broke so easily and cost so much to get it fixed after spending so much money to buy it.

Overall I like this breast pump, however the one I used in the hospital was much better and would rather have that at home, but this one does the job. The problems/concerns I have with this pump is it only comes with one size breast shields, but fortunately the lactation consultants at the hospital were more than happy to give me shields that fit my breast, now I am much more comfortable. My second problem/concern is this pump is so LOUD. I can not believe how loud it is. I like to multi task so I have a sports bra with holes cut out to hold on the shields better (also helps greatly with hands on pumping, and I like to get work done on my computer or return phone calls when I pump to maximize my time, however I can't do this with this pump because it is so loud. In the end even with my problems/concerns I would still recommend this pump to anyone because it does a good job.

I got my PISA on the go pump from my sister, who used it with two kids before giving it to me. It works great. I take it to class with me, along with my bookbag and lunchbox, and everything I need to pump is right there. It's easy to use, as long as there is an outlet nearby. I don't use the battery pack because it goes through batteries like nobody's business. At the end of the day, I think I'd rather just breastfeed. I'm not sure that the point of breastfeeding is the milk itself, but the whole experience of actually breastfeeding. But the PISA on the go pump lets me continue to go to school and work AND breastfeed, even if someone else is feeding my baby for me. And it helps me meet other moms in the bathroom where I pump (they recognize the sound of the pump).
Tara Martin More than 1 year ago
Your work has to provide you a place to pump that is NOT a bathroom. See federal guidelines: http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs73.pdf

For moms who cannot breastfeed their babies, pumping is the only way baby can get the breast milk. Breast milk is the perfect food for baby. It contains everything baby needs, which no formula can do. Yes, there is more to breastfeeding than just the milk, but as a mom who cannot nurse her baby (because he is physically unable to do so due to medical issues), I am grateful for pumps so I can still give him my milk.
Shonda Gentry More than 1 year ago
Ruth your little one is lucky to have a dedicated mom who works so hard going to school, work and pumping. I am sorry you are not getting as much of the breastfeeding experience you want, but I admire your strength and determination. Keep up all that hard work I know it will all be worth it in the end... It always is.

I love my pump and was able to exclusively breastfeed my daughter for over 8 months. The bag is not the greatest, it stop closing after a while and the bottom got moldy but the actual pump is great!
Jeannie Swain More than 1 year ago
Mu baby was born prematurely at 30 weeks, so I used a rented Symphony for the 8 weeks he was in NICU (bulky but fantastic!!). I had used an older Pump in Style with my 1st babv and had a good experience so went with the backback style for this go around. I pump at least 3x/day at work. I love the pump but dislike the backpack due to limited storage and poor construction. The fabric of both zippers has frayed and causes problems with zipper getting stuck. And I have done my best to be gentle. Called Medela but they don't have replacement backpacks. I would recommend the tote hands down.

I am currently pumping for my third child, and I still am using the same pump that I bought for my first child five years ago. The pump is easy to use and makes pumping quick and comfortable. I pump 2-4 times a day. The only complaint that I have is that when I started using the pump last month, it doesn't always turn on. I'm not sure if it is the cord or the pump, but it is frustrating.
Eve@Work More than 1 year ago
Mylissa, I am currently pumping for my 2nd child, using the pump I purchased for my 1st child over 5 yrs ago. I started having the same issue... turned out it was the cord. If I used the battery pack I didn't have the problem, but who wants to go through that many AA batteries!!! So I ordered a replacement cord (12v) and the pump is as good as new, I have even noticed that the suction is stronger than it was before the new cord. The last 12 weeks I have had to turn it up all the way, but with the new cord, I am 3 spots below max. :)

I'm pumping for my 2nd child with the same pump I bought for my first child almost 5 years ago. After 3 months, the pump started to make a shuddering sound and vibrate when in the expression phase about 50% of the time. I took it to the go-to breastfeeding store in LA. They tested all the parts and said that suction in one side was very weak and confirmed the funny sound. I called Medela support, their troubleshooting suggested the face plate was misaligned. I adjusted it while on the phone with support. This helped with the sound and the vibrating. So the support person suggested I buy a replacement or to get one through my insurance. Unfortunately my insurance only provides Ameda pumps, so I'm now doing research on both brands. I'm a huge fan of medela and have multiple spare parts so that I can leave a set of parts at home and one at work. Still leaning toward Medela, but I wish they could have done more for me with the motor not fully functioning.
