Pump In Style Advanced is a daily use breastpump designed for moms who pump several times a day. All Pump In Style Advanced breastpumps offer portable convenience for discreet pumping anywhere.

Through research, Medela learned that there are two distinct phases of how babies breastfeed.
- Stimulation Phase - when babies first go to breast, they suck fast and light to stimulate milk flow.
- Expression Phase - after milk flow or "let-down" starts, babies breastfeed with a slower, deeper suck, bringing out more milk faster.

I was a first time mother and 34 weeks along when I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia. I found out I would have to be induced immediately and after they did, I found out they had been wrong about his position and he was breech. One emergency c-section later and I was stuck with no milk supply. I was able to use the Hospital grade pumps while I was there but when I went home I decided to buy a cheap $40 evenflow pump. It tour up my nipples. After trying with it for a few more weeks I was sick of the pain and decided to invest in a Medela breast pump. Immediately I was better off. I was able to supply him with a good amount of breast milk before I dried up. This pump has had it's kinks, but honestly, if you use it right and follow the instruction manual it will last you forever. I am now on my third child. I pump at least 5 times a day for at least 30 minutes at a time and I breastfeed at times. For a non hospital grade pump, this is the best you will get for your money and when this one eventually wears out I will definitely purchase another. Well worth the money!

I am so pleased with my Pump in Style. I have five children that have all benifitted from it since 2001. I purchased it at the end of 2000, and wondered how it would actually work. I recently had it tested so I could go back to work, and the suction is still fantastic. On one side it is just slightly weaker, but it still registers as very good. I do change the tubing out occasionally, but that is to be expected, given the time I have had it. I am so greatful for the quality of the products that you offer. My shoulder beg still looks new.
The only way that I could be more pleased, is to actually be nursing my little one at home instead of pumping from afar. Thank you once again Medela!

This pump is great. Super simple to use, I bring it everywhere and the car adapter is great! I get all my pumps in on the way to and from work bc it's compacts and quick!

Breastfeeding didn't work out for us and I insisted on exclusively pumping. A friend of mine loaned me her PISA a few days after birth while we were having breastfeeding issues. A month later I bought my own and it helped me feed my son for a year. It was easy to use, I love the let down feature. I wish it came with more than one set of flanges (different sizes) as not everyone is a size 24 but after trying a size 27s all my issues disappeared. It was used 2 hours a day for 365 days and still works like it's new. Yeah I've had to replace membranes and parts but I like to think of it as a car, initial payment plus maintenance. Still way cheaper than formula! Love it so much!

I love this pump and the company. I had an issue with my pump and mary was WONDERFUL! Mary gave me support and assisted all me needs. Thanks again Mary! I returned to work full-time when my son was 12 weeks old and my PISA Metro bag came with me every day. Not only was I able to pump enough to feed him during the day but I donated over 500 ounces to a milk bank. I pumped for my son till he was 14 months old. In total I pumped over 30 gallons with this bad boy! If you're a working mom this pump is an investment that is well worth it.

I actually received a used one from my sister in law while traveling and loved it. She had for a few years, so she got tons of use out of it and then I used it for a few months everyday a couple of times a day. I am currently waiting for a new one to arrive! I love love love it!!!!

I wasn't able to nurse my baby and decided to pump exclusively. It is now almost 6 weeks and I've used the pump everyday. I have a stash of extra milk in the freezer and am glad I able to give my baby breast milk at every feeding. I have had no problems with the pump at all. Works great.
SIDE NOTE: For anyone who has to supplement with formula due to baby losing weight after birth, don't use a bottle. There are other options but no one told me. And refuse the pacifier that they give you at the hospital. Supplementing with a bottle and a pacifier both interfere with efforts to breastfeed.

This thing is awesome. Granted, it was not as cheap as other pumps but this pump is worth every penny! Pumping at work is a breeze. One less thing to stress about. However, finding the correct fitting shield is the key. If your having issues call the awesome customer service and they can help you out.

Great pump! I love it! I don't think there could be any better pump for me. Well worth the money. The tote is great quality. Not too heavy, plenty of space. Great job Medela. I Highly recommend!

The pump worked great! I used it for 6 months with my first son. My son had trouble lactating on so I never took him to breast. I only used my pump. Because I'm a stay at home mom I decided to go for the Metro Bag, so the pump could come out of the bag and onto the table. Worked out amazing. I moved it from room to room, took it places with me. I liked that I could use my normal diaper bag as well, and didn't have to worry that the pump was attached to a bag. Couldn't ask for a better pump.

Mu baby was born prematurely at 30 weeks, so I used a rented Symphony for the 8 weeks he was in NICU (bulky but fantastic!!). I had used an older Pump in Style with my 1st babv and had a good experience so went with the backback style for this go around. I pump at least 3x/day at work. I love the pump but dislike the backpack due to limited storage and poor construction. The fabric of both zippers has frayed and causes problems with zipper getting stuck. And I have done my best to be gentle. Called Medela but they don't have replacement backpacks. I would recommend the tote hands down.

I love my pump and was able to exclusively breastfeed my daughter for over 8 months. The bag is not the greatest, it stop closing after a while and the bottom got moldy but the actual pump is great!

I got my PISA on the go pump from my sister, who used it with two kids before giving it to me. It works great. I take it to class with me, along with my bookbag and lunchbox, and everything I need to pump is right there. It's easy to use, as long as there is an outlet nearby. I don't use the battery pack because it goes through batteries like nobody's business. At the end of the day, I think I'd rather just breastfeed. I'm not sure that the point of breastfeeding is the milk itself, but the whole experience of actually breastfeeding. But the PISA on the go pump lets me continue to go to school and work AND breastfeed, even if someone else is feeding my baby for me. And it helps me meet other moms in the bathroom where I pump (they recognize the sound of the pump).

Overall I like this breast pump, however the one I used in the hospital was much better and would rather have that at home, but this one does the job. The problems/concerns I have with this pump is it only comes with one size breast shields, but fortunately the lactation consultants at the hospital were more than happy to give me shields that fit my breast, now I am much more comfortable. My second problem/concern is this pump is so LOUD. I can not believe how loud it is. I like to multi task so I have a sports bra with holes cut out to hold on the shields better (also helps greatly with hands on pumping, and I like to get work done on my computer or return phone calls when I pump to maximize my time, however I can't do this with this pump because it is so loud.
In the end even with my problems/concerns I would still recommend this pump to anyone because it does a good job.

I used this to exclusively pump 16 months total for both my kids. It worked great up until the day the motor died on me. Otherwise I would have used it longer. I agree the backpack didn't have much room to put all of my necessities for pumping on the go. I've never used the metro bag though either. Had I known from the beginning that I'd be exclusively pumping, I would have invested in a higher grade pump.

This pump works great. The only problem is, a couple of months after I bought it one of the prongs just broke off. Unfortunately, I missed the grace period for the warranty and it will cost $35 plus shipping to fix a tiny little prong :( Pretty disappointed that it broke so easily and cost so much to get it fixed after spending so much money to buy it.

I had an emergency c-section at 34 weeks and used the hospital grade Medela pump to start my breast feeding attempts. It worked wonders and convinced me to buy my own after I got discharged. It worked great the first week (almost as good as the hospital one) but then it felt like it lost suction power and the tubing kept getting milk and condensation. I decided to try to get extra tubing to switch out while the other cleans and dries, but the tubing is hard to find and is out of stock from this website. Every site and review I have come across has said the same thing about this elusive tubing...MIA....I like it, but it's not as impressive as the hospital grade pump I experienced...

I am a Registered Nurse on a post partum ward in an American Hospital overseas. I thoroughly researched Medella vs Avent and ended up buying the Pump-in-Style. (For my first son I stayed at home and thus only needed a "cheap" pump. This pump works pretty well however I have had some issues.
First, I plugged the pump into a 110v outlet (Germany is usually 220, but my hospital has 110v outlets) and the cord died. It had worked gloriously on my transformer, but perhaps the 110v failed me and killed my cord. Medela recommends using only the battery or car cord when overseas but our local Exchange sells the American pumps leaving us with no other option but to plug it into a transformer. It would be nice if these pumps were dual-voltage.
Luckily, due to my place of work (post-partum ward), I am able to use the Symphony at work but when I am at home I was using the battery pack. I agree with the other reviewers that the battery pack goes through batteries ridiculously fast. Why can't Medela make rechargeable battery packs? This worked ok but then the battery pack died. Fresh batteries did nothing to revive it. So now I have to order a new cord AND a new battery pack as the warranty was stated to be only three months and it's been four months since my son was born and 6 months since I bought the pump.
Medela has a great reputation and it's annoying to have had these problems. My recommendations to the company?
1. Dual-voltage pumps
2. Rechargeable battery packs
3. Spare tubing
I feel hesitant recommending this pump to my patients (at least the American Model) based on my issues with it.

I love my Medla Pump in Style Advanced in terms of suction and overall quality. I work full time so I use this pump three times a day, five days a week.
The problem I have is with the MOLD in the tubing. In eight months I've replaced the tubing twice. I've read that this is a common problem with these pumps so my suggestion is to fx the problem or make up for it Medela! Either Medala needs to provide extra tubing in the original kit, or they need to replace the tubes free of charge. Next time I choose to pay close to $300 for a pump, I will select one that doesn't require replacement parts every three months.

The dual electric pump has been great, but I'm frustrated that the backpack barely fits the accessories that I need to pump at work or on the go. If they made it even an inch or 2 larger, that would have been a huge help. I need to pump about 3 times a day at work, which means I need to bring at least 4 or 5 botlles, the cooler bag, at least 1 set of breast shields, the nursing bra, and a privacy cover with me every day. It's like playing Tetris trying to find a way to fit each of those items in this backpack. And fitting in a supply of cleaning bags or storage bags with the hard plastic adapter would mean having to leave something else out. I wish I had gone with one of the roomier bags.

Loved the pump. The dual pump made pumping quicker and easier. I did not like the qulity of the backpack. It began to fall apart almost immediatly and I am now expecting my second child and faced with the dilemma of how to carry the pump as the backpack is toast. I only used it for 10 months for 10 days a month:( I would have expected a higher quality backpack for the price of the pump.

I am a first-time mom and our son is now 18 weeks old. We went our and bought all Medela products - bottles, milk storage kits, breast pads, bras, etc. in preparation for his birth. And we his was born we purchase a Pump in Style Tote. I would have to say it's the Medela product were are most miffed with. It's also the most expensive. After using it a little more than 4 months, the motor sounds like it may give out at any second and the tubes need to be replaced. Our son is exclusively breastfed and the pump is the only way I can make sure he has the milk he needs at all time so we bought it thinking it was the best in the industry and we're not sure if we can agree.

The pump has poor quality. I bought it for my first child. After a couple months use, we put it away. When my second come, I take it out and it will not start. I tried AC and DC and the pump did not make a sound. I am very disappointed for 400$ pump only last for a few months. Worst of that is the manufacture only offers 1 year warranty. Now I have to get a new one.
