I highly recommend the Medela Freestyle. It is fast, efficient, gentle, and convenient. I began using this pump at home while having latch issues and needed to heal a cracked nipple. The settings allowed me to customize the strength so it was gentle when I was sore. And this pump continues to serve me well, now that I am back at work. The portable battery/pump holds a charge for a very long time. I pump 3 times a day, 5 days a week, and it can hold a charge for the entire week. This is particularly important because I have limited access to power outlets in the room I use for pumping at work. It also has great strength; I am able to complete a pump session in 20 minutes or less, and I have maintained my milk production without any problems. Additionally, it is so small and mobile that I actually pump in the car on my 20 minute drive to work, and again on my 20 minute drive home (of course, with a cover for discretion). And because the face plate of the pump is so easy to use (buttons instead of a dial system), I can make adjustments easily while driving, without ever taking my eyes off the road. Talk about multitasking! This aspect, pumping while driving, has been such a time saver and very easy—it has truly allowed me to be present at my job without constantly worrying about pumping. Lastly, I really like the hands-free attachment system. Nearly every review I read prior to buying this pump complained that the hands-free system was too difficult to figure out. I could not disagree more; it is super simple and convenient! In fact, I find it much more convenient than a hands-free bra because I can attach it without having to undo much of my clothing—I simply lift my shirt, attach, and I’m ready to go. This pump is worth every penny!

Due to nursing issues, I have been pumping and bottling since my baby was 8 days old. He is now almost 10 months. This pump made the difference between continuing to provide milk, and having to switch to formula. This is also the third pump I have owned, so have others to compare it to and I would absolutely purchase it again. Regarding some of the problems people have had, my experience has been positive. My first Freestyle started having motor problems. I called Medela and they overnighted a new pump to me. Their customer service was very helpful and the process was smooth. Cleaning it seemed like a task at first (compared to my other brands/styles), but I quickly got used to it and it goes very fast. I would recommend having a second set of parts. (I work, so I leave one in my work “to-go” bag so I don’t have to think about getting all the parts gathered each morning.) As for the spilling milk, that has nothing to do with the pump itself, but with how the bottle attaches. I am hands free every time I pump, and I play with my son, carry him around, and let him climb on me without spilling. You have to be cognizant of your angle and to not bend forward too much, but personally that hasn’t been a problem, even with how active I am. Lastly is the hands free set up, which admittedly I do find a little ridiculous. Early on I purchased two of the Easy Expression bustiers, and they work great. Pumping at work is easy, and at home I am able to do laundry, cook, pet the dogs, and play with my son. All in all, pumping isn’t ideal, but this pump makes it so much easier. I love this pump!

I was stuck in the hospital for 2 weeks after delivery due to complications, so I had to use the hospital pumps which are close to perfect and 100% adjustable. Then my husband found this one when I returned home, and it worked very comparable. Not as many adjustments but having the 2 stage was all that you really need.

Used with my first back on 2010 for over a year. I decided to invest in this pump after my Playtex pump died after two weeks. Now I am using this pump with my second child two years later and everything still works great. Battery works perfectly just as when I first bought it. Remembered my settings as well. Great purchase. Now I just need to get the spare parts kit because I lost one of the membranes. I like that I can order just that section instead having to buy a new pump. Great product. Worth the money.

I am now nursing my second child (10 months old), and working full time and worked full time and nursed my first for over a year. I use this pump daily and it works great for me. I love the hands free and also the cordless and it is even more useful while chasing around a 3 year old and an infant. The cordless is also great for use in the car, which is a plus as we take some good road trips. Once the baby is old enough to hold his own bottle, really makes road trips easier. I replaced the connectors as the back cap didn't fit as tigh and the connector suction wasn't quite as good with all the use. Other users had cautioned that it leaks, and it does if you bend at the waist. If I keep my chest upright and bend at my knees I can pick number two up off the floor. I have even unloaded the dishwasher (carefully squatting down, etc) while pumping without problems. This pump is well worth the investment and helped keep me nursing longer than I may have if I had to stay stationary while pumping. Great for busy moms. I had the belt clip break on my pump after all the use and Medela was great to replace it for me. Really appreciate the service.

I was able to easily pump a good amount of milk with this pump. It has proven to be very reliable and easy to use. I did not use the hand free system it came with but a pumping bra just because all the straps seemed overwhelming to me. But with the bra it was great to have a pump that could get good suction even without it being plugged in. Although I found that it worked even better when it was plugged into a power source.

I am now on baby #3 and I am still very pleased with my Freestyle pump. I worked full time (and pumped for 12 months) with baby #1- and thank goodness I didn't need an outlet with this pump- I had to use a restroom, with no plugs, for my pumping. By baby #2 I was working in the same place, but now part time- and they'd added a lactation room with a Medela- hospital pump ( I think it was from 1956.) I never had to worry if the machine was in use, I had my handy- portable version with me! Now with baby #3, I am a full time mom and part-time teacher, and I have been pumping just enough to allow me a night out here and there, but my Freestyle is still going strong. Pros: Small size, great battery life on rechargeable pump, easier cleaning than a Pump-in-style pump (way way way less fragile membranes too!), being able to pump at my desk (after hours anyway- when no one was around) and still get computer/paper work done Cons- I could get the hands-free stuff to work (I'm a 36 F-G, so that was probably part of the problem!), but it wasn't great. Also, I couldn't find replacement bra-hook adapters when one was lost between babies.

I absolutely love my Freestyle! I had to return to work when my baby was 4 months old and the Freestyle allows me to pump at work while at my desk. It allows me to continue to work on the computer, it has been a great! I am able to still to what is best for my baby and keep him off formula. I pump 2-3 times during the work day, place in a freezer provided at work for me, pack in the mini cooler to transport home and place in my freezer when I get home. It has allowed me to continue to build a healthy stock of milk for my baby's daily feedings while I am away. When I am with my baby I exclusively breastfeed. I would not be able to provide the best nutrition for my little one if it weren't for my Freestyle!

I love, love, love this pump. With my first child, latching was a problem, but I really wanted my baby to have breastmilk. I got the freestyle in 2009 and was able to give my baby breastmilk for an entires year. I kept the pump and when my second child was born in 2011, I bought replacement parts and did what I do best.....pump milk for my baby. I did purchase a new one today because after 3 years.....my pump has died. I don't feel the pump was expensive because I would be paying quadruple for formula....so even after 2 freestyles, I am getting the bang for my buck. I LOVE THIS PUMP!

I really like this pump. I am exclusively pumping so I use it 6-8 times a day, every day. The suction has been great and I just pump it after my first morning pump and by my 2nd pump of the day it is fully charged for the rest of the day. I did have a problem with the suction so I called and they sent me a couple of extra membrane sets for no charge. The customer service through Medela is great. The pump IS expensive, but I am very pleased with the purchase. I will say that the hands free setup is too difficult to use, especially in the middle of the night, so I just have one of the Easy Expression Bustiers and I also have a tube top bra that I cut holes in and that works well too.

I used this pump with my first baby when I went back to work at 5 months. Used it 3-4 times a day until he was 9 months old. It was so convienent to have the hands free mode, light and easy to carry if I have to move around while pumping and even works if you have to do it while sitting in the car. This year I used it again with my second baby until she was 8 months old. I think I even appreciated it more the second time. It's such a great pump. When I had my first child I started with the Medela Pump in Style and at the point where I went back to work I decided to get this one. It was such a great decision because having a super pump is key to getting breastmilk while away from your baby. I never have to hold the shields while pumping (and can't belive some women do this everytime!). Instead I relax and watch tv, read a book or even sometimes do the dishes! All my friends were jeallous too that this pump was so easy, light and great to take anywhere.

I love my freestyle! I'm now using it with my 2nd baby and I think I love it even more this time than with my 1st. I've never had any problems with suction unless the tube wasn't plugged in completely or the flanges weren't snapped together completely. My favorite part is that I don't have to be "plugged in" while I'm pumping and the charge lasts a really long time. My baby is 5 months old and I pump once every day and I've only had to charge it 3 times. I definitely recommend this pump!

I LOVE this pump. Even needing to pump soon after baby was born, this pump gave me maximum output. I love that it is highly portable and small. I think all the parts are highly durable (I'm not sure what anyone expects pump parts to be made out of other than plastic!) and easily cleaned. I pump nearly every day and have noticed no downgrade in power. Great small but mighty pump- glad I saved up my giftcards and sprung for this model.

I exclusively pump and have been using the freestyle for a month. I don't like the handsfree straps so I purchased the handsfree bra. I also recommend purchasing the Pumpin Pals breast shields for a better fit (they are angled so there is no corner for your nipple to smash into.) The pump itself is great, i love that it has two separate modes. I also love that i can clip it onto my pocket and get things done around the house while I pump. great pump!

I was given an older Pump in Style from my sister, who had previously received it from its original owner. Therefore, I was the third user. The unit was a tank... heavy, bulky to tote around, but still functioned without issue. I became increasingly worried about my use as the third user since the diaphragm couldn't be removed to clean and sterilize it. I started to feel guilt that perhaps my milk was contaminated with microorganisms, etc. so my husband and I researched new options to make our own investment in a reliable, first-user pump that I could call my own. We ended up selecting the Freestyle, which I have been using for four days. I used my old Pump in Style for the first three months of my baby's life with great success. The most appealing feature of this unit, for me at least, was it's ability to mobilize me so that I can maximize my time, particularly in the morning during a busy work week. So far I've tried the hands-free adaption only twice. Admittedly, it's a bit time consuming to get it all assembled in any less than 2-3 minutes, and it takes some practice get the clips to secure well enough to my nursing bra that I feel confident enough to walk around without anything slipping out of place. I think the use of a hands-free bustier would provide greater security than what Medela has provided for hands-free conversion. I'll also mention that it's an awful game to play trying to assemble the hands-free parts and get them "mounted" securely before my breasts begin to let down. I don't know if others experience a let down shortly after exposing their breasts to the air during the times throughout the day when your body expects to pump, but mine certainly do so it's a race against the clock to get the hands-free parts all in order before I begin to leak on my clothes. Once everything is set up, and I'm feeling confident that the breast shields are well enough in place to walk around, I feel a little ridiculous like Madonna with her cone breasts in the 80s... alas, I am able to get some other things accomplished with my hands freed up. I simply wish getting to that point were a little less tedious. Having used the Pump in Style prior to the Freestyle, I have had to adjust to less control over my pumping experience. The two-phase expression of the Freestyle does more closely mimic the hospital-grade Symphony, which I used in the hospital at the time of my child's birth; however, once in expression mode, I only have control over the intensity of the vacuum but no control over the speed at which it tugs away. The Pump in Style, at least the older model I was using, allowed me to control the intensity as well as the speed. I'm surprised that the Freestyle doesn't create as strong a vacuum as the Pump in Style...another adjustment I had to make. Nonetheless, it does seem to still remove as much milk from my breasts as the Pump in Style did, I just need to get used to the differences in how I reach the end result. For comparison's sake, after sleeping through the night I pump anywhere from 11 to 14 oz total first thing in the morning. The Pump in Style took about 30 minutes to express all of that completely; my new Freestyle took about 22 minutes this past weekend to express 14 oz. Not bad, I'd say. My only complaint there is that Medela's bottles are only marked for 5 oz (but really can hold about 6.5 if maxed out) and therefore I need to pause and switch my collection bottles when I have so much milk backed up in my breasts. I was pleased the Freestyle came with 27 mm breast shields. After two months of awful discomfort with the Pump in Style, I did some research and concluded it was caused by my breast shields, which were too small for my nipples. After stepping up to size large, I had marked improvement in my comfort and no longer felt a burning sensation in my breasts and nipples after pumping. So, to offer two different sizes in the standard package from Freestyle was MUCH appreciated so that I didn't have to buy another spare set of 27 mm shields. Awesome. I very much appreciate how much more discrete the entire unit is compared to the bulk of a Pump in Style. I don't feel like I'm toting around a "milking parlor" -- it greatly downplays the shock value of having a breast pump slung over my shoulder as I walk into my office past many important administrators and often the president of my organization. I don't necessarily have to use the tote provided by Medela--though it is spacious and relatively stylish--I can fit the pump, tubing, bottles, shields, and membranes into my purse and it's all out of sight and out of mind. I'll also comment that the Freestyle is actually quite noisy when running. My old Pump in Style couldn't be heard behind my closed office door. In the end, I like this pump. It's just new and different. Not quite 5 stars, though. I'm not sure it's worth the full freight charged for it, either.

I love my freestyle. I have used it for both my girls (8-9 months for #1 and 4-5 for #2). I am working full time and have pumped in a bathroom both times. The portability is great and it's compact size is nice and discrete. I even was able to use it in the car a few times. Even after being in the attic between kids, the battery still holds it charge well. My only complaint is that the hands free thing is kinda cumbersome and not that great. Several times I had issues with leaking using the hands free things. But otherwise, it worked well for me...I just had to pay attention. Overall, a good pump and I would recommend it.

This pump is very compact but also louder than the Pump In Style. I got this for travel and ease of use at work, less bulk to haul around. Out of the box, the pump did not charge the battery, the display never turned off, and the timer did not work. Medela sent me a new one the next day. The parts are easy to put together. While mobility is great, don't lean forward while wearing it or you will pump all your milk on the floor as the membranes do not fully seal closed on the back. I did this twice and soaked my leg and carpet. The hands free attachments take longer to attach than to put the pump together...cut holes in a sports bra instead. The suction feels to be less than my PISA but it is really effective at getting milk out anyway. The initial phase is very light almost to the point where I cannot feel it but it does work. I exclusively breastfeed but also pump 25-30 oz daily. This pump gets out just as much as my PISA does so no production difference there. The memory function is very nice since I hate needing to fiddle with it.

I received this pump as a gift and when I went to the go-to-place in NYC for breastfeeding, they told me I would likely have a supply problem with this pump. They said of all the Medela pumps, despite being the more expensive, it was the weakest pump according to their engineer. In fact, due to the supply problems they stopped carrying it. I would definitely not recommend this pump if you have other options. Also, the parts didn't last long. I mostly breastfed, but the pump parts needed replaced after 9 months.

It pumps, yes..so do all the others. If you bend over even a little or bounce at all it spills that whole 30 minutes of pumping you just spent valuble time on wasted..so frustrating. This is not even close to worth the price they have it for. You can't pick your child up with it on. You literally have to be sitting, not moving while you're using it. It doesn't come with a car charge adapter so count a long car ride to visit grandmother out. For how much you're paying you would expect way more than what you're getting. Also..this takes at least 5 minutes to get on. It's not quick and then after you're done all the pieces have to be taken apart and cleaned. Boooooo

I first purchased the Medela Single Deluxe, which worked good until the motor gave out. So the store recommended the Medela Swing. Well lw and behold it doesn't hold up to what it say: pumps more & faster in less time!!! Well it doesn't, it takes just as long as a double breast pump I bought (Platex, which didn't do well either). Out of the three, the Medela Single Deluxe was the best of the 3, but still Soooo disappointed with the money I spent on the Medela Swing that does not stand up to what it's suppose to do!

I bought this one because it was the more expensive and supposely better pump. I used the pump for two months and the motor went bad. Because it is considered a personal item, I can not return it nor can I exchange it. Now I'm stuck with an expensive non working pump!

I was so disappointed with the loudness of this pump. Also why don't they make all the parts interchangeable? I had to rent the Symphony from the hospital and the tubes didn't match up meaning I had to lug around two set of tubing back and forth? for $400 you would think they would match???? the only good thing about this thing is the size of it and the timer on the front.

As a previous owner of a pump-in-style advance and an exclusive pumper for three children, I was VERY disappointed in the freestyle pump. With three small children, I was very attracted to the idea that it was portable, and it was, but that was the only good thing about this pump. I repeatedly lost suction on one side almost every time I pumped, the membranes were EXTREMELY sensititive and VERY hard to clean. They had to be bone dry in order to work for the next pump, and because they were so easy to warp, I would dry them with a q-tip. The cleaning (and drying) of these parts was unbelievablely time consuming. As an exclusive pumper, I can tell you that the pump-in-style parts are a lost easier to clean. Just run a little soap and water through them after each pump and sterilize at the end of the day. The membranes work whether they are wet or dry and rarely stop working mid-pump like the freestyle. Overall, this was an incredible waste of money. I do have to applaud Medela on their efforts to help me resolve the suction issues, however despite new lines and many new spare part kits, this pump just did not work right. I ended up getting a new pump-in-style advance and couldn't be happier!!

I thought I was buying the top of the line pump but that was not the case. The pump is very expensive and it's not for big breasted women. The straps that come with it never worked. It never pumps out enough milk I can pump out more with my hand. I tried 3 different size personal fit cups and none of them fit right. On top of that any time I put the bottles down they fall over and spill what little it did pump out! The pump parts are cheap plastic. It's not worth $400.00, it's not even worth $100.00 I wish I had bought a different one and saved some money

The motor gave up and the customer service I've heard such wonderful things about is giving me the run around to avoid ACTUALLY having to do something about it. I am VERY disappointed by the company and product.
