Through research, Medela learned that there are two distinct phases of how babies breastfeed.
 
  1. Stimulation phase – is a fast sucking/pumping rhythm to stimulate the milk ejection reflex and to start the milk flowing.
  2. Expression phase – is a slower sucking/pumping rhythm for gentle and efficient milk removal.

Important:  Plastic bottles and component parts become brittle when frozen and may break when dropped.  Also, bottles and component parts may become damaged if mishandled, e.g. dropped, over-tightened, or knocked over.  Take appropriate care in handling bottles and components.  Do not use the breastmilk if bottles or components become damaged.

I breast fed my baby for a whole year even though I returned to work when she was 7 months! this pump is excellent I really used it everywhere. I even managed to go abroad on a one-day trip w/o my baby and just with the pump! I expressed a good amount for a 24hrs supply for my baby using Medela Harmony and I do recommend it. I used to breast feed my baby from one breast and meanwhile express from the other breast and this was one of the great things I do not regret I bought - value for money!!

I am able to get more milk out with the Medela Harmony in a shorter amount of time than I can using my double playtex pump. The 2 phase expression really works. I still have to miss a normal feeding to get enough to make it worth while but I have started using it between feedings to try and build my milk supply and can usually get a feedings worth out throughout the day.

I have travel electric single, and 2 Medela Harmony pumps. My Harmony gets more BM out than the single electric pump. I love it so much! Best quality and I recommend to every one.

My one complaint about this product is that the O-ring has broken twice on my pump (I don't use it a ton). It is a very small but very important part, the pump does not work very well at all without this small piece. The problem is medela only sales this little piece with the diaphragm, puller and o-ring and that costs $20 dollars and you can only buy it online. I called Medela 3 times and they haven't been very helpful. The reason I Love this pump is because when it has that piece and works, it works really well and is comfortable. We travel quite regularly and it is very convenient to be able to pump and feed on the go or in a place with no power outlets. I take it everywhere with me but I am very frustrated that I have to spend $20 on a little o-ring that keep breaking and that i have to order it online (not very helpful when I am traveling). other than that I love my medela harmony breastpump. Just wish the company would help me out a bit with this little piece that keeps breaking.

I am surprised to see any good reviews on this product. It was a complete waste of $40 for me. I do love my electric double pump though.
