November 5, 2007: Worldwide breastpump, breastfeeding accessories and lactation research leader Medela Inc. announced that its Pump In Style® Advanced line will feature enhanced technical capability and an updated design in 2008. The line of double-electric personal-use breastpumps includes the Shoulder Bag, Backpack and Metro Bag™, and features Medela’s  patented research-based 2-Phase Expression® Technology, which is proven to help moms get more milk in less time.

The pioneering 2-Phase Expression pumping pattern mimics a baby’s natural nursing rhythm by pumping in two distinct phases: “Stimulation” and “Expression”. The new Pump In Style Advanced models will allow moms to easily toggle between the initial “Stimulation” phase and the “Expression” phase, a capability previously only available on Medela’s hospital-grade Symphony® breastpump.

The 2008 pumps will include Medela’s updated 150-milliliter breastmilk collection containers. The containers feature bright easy-to-read markings to help mom measure how much milk she pumped or how much baby drank.

The new Pump In Style Advanced Shoulder Bag and Backpack will feature butter cream accents to match the Metro Bag’s modern design, creating a more stylish universal family of products. Additionally, in response to mom feedback Medela widened the mouth of the Backpack to make it easier to get contents in and out.

“We are always listening to moms, looking for ways to improve our products to fit their needs,” said Carolin Archibald, Medela’s vice president of consumer products. “We hope our enhanced Pump In Style Advanced line will help even more moms maintain milk supply and breastfeed longer.”

In addition to these technical and aesthetic improvements, Medela announced that it will reduce the price of its Pump In Style Advanced line of breastpumps in 2008. This move follows the company’s recent decision to offer only personal-use double pumps with Medela’s patented research-based 2-Phase Expression Technology.    The new Pump In Style Advanced Line will be available beginning in January 2008.
