  • Freestyle membranes--what am I looking for?

I've been back at work for about 4 weeks, and pumping for my 5mo. Today I had a dramatically lower output than has been my norm. I'm trying to rule out all the obvious possible explanations before I panic. Everything suggests that you check your membranes. Am I looking for holes, cracks, what? Surely, it would be some kind of obvious wear or damage? thanks!

Yes, check the membranes for any holes, cracks, etc. You can also buy a spare parts set that replaces the whole assembly on the freestyle (available at Target and other places). I have also occasionally gotten it assembled incorrectly, so make sure there is not a fold or that the outer "shell"is attached properly...makes a different sound. My problem was the shields. I know that sounds crazy but all of a sudden I needed bigger shields (at about 5.5 months)! I bought the 27 mm ones and was able to express more at my pumpings. I am now able to use the regular softfits occasionally again when just pumping once a day, but if I have to pump a lot, I have to use the larger ones. Not really sure of why...just thought I would share in case that might help you.
