  • Can I feed breast milk without breastfeeding?

I am expecting my first child in December and this might be a silly question! Is it possible for me to breast feed without breastfeeding? I'd prefer to pump and feed from a bottle, rather than actually breastfeed. I know the milk is best for my baby, which is why I want to breastfeed. I don't like the idea of actually doing it! Any suggestions??

Yo can do that, and in fact they encourage pump feeding to Moms who for whatever reason do not actually breastfeed. I do believe you would have to pump the same amount of times that you would breastfeed. So for example: babies should be fed every 2-3hrs for about 15-20 mins on each breast so would just need to pump during that time frame. Good luck with everything and congrats!

thats what exclusive pumping is for!!!! Its just as time consuming as breastfeeding but its totally possible. I have been doing it for 5 months now!!! having a good pump and a supportive person to help you. I keep a log of every pump and feeding (like they suggest for breastfeed babies) but that way I can see if I am pumping enough for him. I started off with pumping one time more than the baby was eating and then started eliminating sessions as the baby eliminated feedings. Its stressful and not easy but you can do it! There are tons of places online that you can look to for support! Good Luck!

i had a premature baby and he never latched on so i excusevly pumped and fed him with a bottle. U really have to pump a lot to keep your supply up and then i still had problems with my supply. It is doable but i can tell you first hand it is MUCH easier to breastfeed your baby, plus it is such a better bonding experience;)
