  • Can I clean my equipment after every other pumping session vs every pumping session?

This is going to seem lazy, but honestly it's more related to a time issue at work...Knowing that breastmilk remains safe for consumption x5 hours at room temperature...if I'm going to pump again within 5 hours, is it Ok to just clean my breast pump equipment every other feeding versus every feeding? The theory being that the breastmilk on the equipment has been sitting there for less than 5 hours, therefor should not be growing any bacteria and should still be safe, right? Yes, I've tried the quick-clean wipes and the sanitizing microwave bags...and will continue to use those after each feeding if necessary.

you probably could... i've done that a few times (when i was tight on time) but the problem i ran into was the milk drying up & getting all flaky in the yellow part & making the membranes stick together. i started just rinsing them with water between pumping sessions if i knew i was going to use them again in a few hours. the only thing i would be worried about is foreign bacteria getting on the parts & it turning into a bacterial breeding ground or cause thrush issues. im no doctor or anything but thats just my thought :)  well, if you dont wash them between pump sessions, maybe keep them covered or just dry them off with a paper towel then put them in a plastic baggy to prevent other people's icky germs from getting on the parts :)

I put mine in a ziplock baggie and put them in the fridge for the day. I pump as many times as needed, and wash at night.
