Medela — #1 Choice of Hospitals and Mothers

I just called medela customer services today to order some parts for my Pump in Style. I am currently using my friend's pump, which she used a few years ago. What surprised me is that the customer service lady told me that one pump for one person and I cannot use an used pump from my friend. I am so surprised! Any one in this board using other's pump? I felt I made a huge mistake not to buy a new pump!!!

It's due to hygiene issues. There is no way to properly disinfect the parts and you could cross contaminate your breast milk without even knowing it. Even though your friend may not know she has something, why take the chance with your baby? Even something like cracked nipples that have bled could have gotten into the system and contaminated everything. Hope this helps.
