  • PIS Pump going bad?

    05-27-2009 8:39 AM Reply

I have a PIS, double breast pump, I've had it for 2 1/2 months and use it several times a day, as I'm back at work.

When I pump, I can hear air escaping from the middle of the pump...the part wear you can close off one side.  If I put my finger on that little yellow "button" (not the letdown button above the power cord, but the one between the 2 hoses), the air leak stops.  Is this normal?  Is air supposed to be escaping from this spot, or is there a leak?

Also, when I put it on a higher power, the motor "clicks" or "pops", and almost sounds like it's straining.  Is this normal, or is the motor going bad?

I'm just wondering if the pump is as efficient as it should be (I know it's not the same as baby)...the suction just doesn't feel as strong as it used to.

     Thanks in advance!

I have had my pump for 2 months and I notice the air leaking around the yellow "button" too.  I have no idea if it always did this but I am noticing it now.

I was pumping 3 to 4 oz each time but suddenly I am pumping only 1 to 2 oz.  This happened from one day to the next.

I have had this problem on two medela pumps; I am actually sending back a second one. I started closing the gap with my toes while I pumped!! I noticed it when I realized it was taking me 45 minutes to pump. I have also tried two face plates - because all three, (2 face plates, and a whole new pump) all have this problem, it sounds like it's supposed to be like that...?

I went through the trouble shooting with Medela on the phone and they told me it should do that. Its the way the pump lets out the extra air, pressure something like that.

I also had the same issues and spoke with someone from Medela who told me that it was normal.

I'm having the same issue. I know the milk is in my breasts but all of a sudden it seems the pump is loosing suction. I've only had the pump two months. I did notice the air escaping and the loud noise. But most troublesome is that turning the dial up does not change the pressure in the pump. This is really discouraging, I have to return to work soon and now faced with the prospect of getting another pump? I'm not sure what to do here...
