I have the insurance covered model and just love it. The adjustable speeds, expression mode, and 5 ounce bottles are great. Suction is much more powerful than the first years mi pump brand. The little black box is easy to manipulate as well. I want the battery pack now! ;)

How did you get it covered by your insurance? I'm in need of a free breast pump!
Nathan Garcia 3 months ago
You need to call your insurance company and see if they cover breast pumps. I have blue cross blue shield and just called their benefits line and they said it was covered 100% all I needed was my dr to write me a prescription for one.

I called Sterling Medical and they took care of everything from having my doctor to write a prescription for the pump to billing my BSBS insurance. They said it would arrive at my house next week. Cross my fingers...

I like this a lot

as an active duty Air Force Sergeant this pump has been able to help me pump at work and while i'm at school. going on 4 months now and i love it. it has different speeds and lots of space. only reason i gave 4 stars is because the carrying case is ugly. big brown bag !!

I received this pump through my insurance. It is just okay, it pumps some milk but leaves me feeling full after pumping. I have another me dela pump that is older and it is awesome empties me out but this one just doesn't do it.

BEWARE - This is what's now being supplied to insurance companies, without a bag, a cooler or ice packs. For the VAST majority of women making use of a portable breast pump, this is completely useless as there is no way to transport the pump or your expressed breastmilk without spending $150 on their carrying bag. Seems a lot like Medela found a way to squeeze both news moms and insurance companies for money. Shameful.

Sure, it would be nice, but it's not Medela's fault that insurance companies won't cover all the accessories. Blame your insurance company. You also don't have to spend $150 for the carrying case. Just use any tote or ice packs.

I thought the same, so I called my insurance company to find out more information about the claim. I discovered that the amount reimbursed by my insurance company, added to the amount to purchase the "accessories" to make this an actual complete pump equaled more than just buying the pump outright. Pretty clear Medela is making extra money between the two. Hence my disappointment with a company I've long respected and expect more from.

I fail to see how this is "useless". It serves the same purpose as any other Medela pump. You don't have to have the Medela carrying bag. You could find a cuter cheap bag to put it in. A soft sided lunch box and ice pack you can pick up at Walmart for less than $10. I'm personally very grateful that my insurance company covered this. Better than dropping $200- $300 on a new one myself!

I agree with Rebekah, so glad I don't have to carry the big Medela bag. Also the name of this pump says it all, "starter set". I'm so glad my insurance covers it. It is small and portable. Milk can be stored using other options, you don't have to have the Medela accessories. I think it is a great option.

I am irritated that I can't figure out the retail price of this item. Apparently the ONLY way to get this is via an insurance company!
Brittany Waller 3 months ago
Retail value is 175.00 I believe, advanced is around 230-250 depending on where you get it! :) Hope that helps!

Rachel, It wasn't until Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) that insurance companies were mandated to provide coverage at no charge for a breast pump. I'm thankful that this is available, as I was looking at having to shell out $400+ for everything. Now I am looking at maybe $50 for the little "perks". Besides, it does come with a bag, you just need a bigger bag to transport all the accessories to pump.
Heidi 29 days ago
Insurance ( Obamacare ) is required to give breastfeeding moms the supplies to breastfeed. You get a pump 2 bottles breastsheilds and tubing. So you get everything needed to breastfeed a baby via a pump. The ice pack and diaper bag are accessories and not needed to pump. So instead of complaining be happy you are given the opportunity to breastfeed your baby and given the equipment to do so.

btw even if you want the fancy medela brand bag target.com has the exact same ones under $100.00. but realy any bag and ice pack works, just be grateful...
