Leon Mitoulas
PhD

Dr. Leon Mitoulas is Medela's Head of Breastfeeding Research.  Leon joined Medela in 2004 where his task is to coordinate the many breastfeeding research programs that Medela sponsor at partner research institutions around the world.

Leon has had over 10 years experience studying lactation physiology and working as a research scientist at The University of Western Australia (UWA), where he gained his PhD in 2000.

At the UWA he was part of Professor Peter Hartmann's 'Human Lactation Research Group' where his research interests centered around the lipids in breastmilk, especially the variability of the long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and what this meant with regard to infant intake, and the physiology of breast milk removal, particularly the mechanisms employed by the breastfeeding baby and the electric breast pump.

Leon has published over a dozen peer-reviewed articles and is regularly invited to present at breastfeeding conferences and scientific meetings around the world.
