This presentation provides a brief history on neonatal abstinence syndrome and national data related to incidence. We will talk about the impact this nationwide rising occurrence is having on health care providers and hospitals.  An in-depth review of the growing body of evidence supporting breast milk and breastfeeding as positive support for improving outcomes for NAS babies will be covered.  We will also review regulatory recommendations, and briefly discuss national and state programs as solutions to prevent opioid use disorder in pregnancy.
