Certified Nursing Center - Babytalk
Babytalk Store LLC is a retail store located in Northport, Alabama, just across the Black Warrior River from Tuscaloosa. Owned by James and Christine Cover, the Babytalk Store carries a vast selection of products, providing mothers with everything that they need from the earliest days of pregnancy, to their stay in the hospital, and throughout the time that they breastfeed. Babytalk Store also carries a wide selection of baby clothing and accessories, with sizes ranging from micro-preemie, preemie and newborn up through toddler and children sizes. There is an especially large selection of collegiate-themed baby clothing, with an emphasis on clothing and accessories for fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide!
The current store location covers 2550 square feet and carries the largest selection of breastfeeding support products in West Alabama. The store staff are certified bra fitters, and always ready to help customers select intimate apparel, choose maternity and nursing wear, as well as kangaroo care clothing which allows mothers to further aid in their babies' development through skin-to-skin contact. The store has also maintained its rental station providing Medela breastpumps and baby scales for clients who need them.
BABY TALK - How Medela has impacted my business --
In 1993, Christine Cover was working part time as an RN on a busy Labor and Delivery Unit, as well as teaching childbirth preparation and breastfeeding classes. Many of her clients expressed a desire to rent a breastpump, but were in desperation as to finding a method to do so. Christine wanted to find a remedy for this problem and turned to Medela for the answer. She first established Babytalk as a simple home based Medela Rental Station. Her clients were happy with the rental service, but also began asking where they could purchase additional Medela accessories for their breastpumps, and other Medela products to use while nursing. So, Christine expanded her business in order to meet these needs, and her Medela inventory began to grow.
When Medela introduced the Pump In Style® Breastpump and maternity/nursing bras, Christine recognized these as quality products that would positively impact her clients' breastfeeding experiences, so she once again expanded her inventory to include more Medela products. Her clients were thrilled, and business boomed. Babytalk was now way too big for her home, so it was moved into a retail store location and renamed Babytalk Store LLC. Word spread, and customers from farther away began calling Christine and requesting that she send them Medela products. In order to more efficiently meet the needs of these clients, Christine created www.mybreastpump.com, a retail site with a focus on Medela products. .
Christine has now retired from her work as an RN. The business continues to grow and is now based in a 2550 square foot retail store on McFarland Blvd (Highway 82), a main thoroughfare through Tuscaloosa and Northport. It has also become a family affair, employing a number Christine's family members, as well as eight other employees. Although the Babytalk Store now carries many other items including infant and maternity clothing, shower gifts, and nursing accessories, Medela has remained the primary product line carried in the store. If it had not been for the quality and popularity of Medela products, the Babytalk Store would not exist today.
