medela bags are expensive and instead of adding 2 adapters into each of the boxes, give more bags....the largest box of bags i have come across is 50 and that lasts only 3 weeks.

I used up my 1st box bags rather quickly in the last few days of maternity leave in efforts to have a good supply available upon my return to work. I have yet to have any issues with the seals, adapters, freezer burn, etc. I'm wondering if they're re-usable? I would hope that they are, for both economic and environmental reasons. The packaging doesn't say one way or the other. Medela would obviously want consumers to continue purchasing more bags, but I'm hoping someone can answer...

Out of the box the bags are sterile. After you use them, they are not. It's not OK to re-use the bags. (I know bummer!)

I actually really like the new bags. I like the adapter piece and found the bags with the tape cumbersome. I typically pump into bottles and pour into the bags to freeze since im at home for now and am building a reserve. I love that the bags stand up by themselves and I have not experienced spillage b/c I use the breast shield as a funnel when pouring into the bags. I have also not experienced the freezer burn or issues with the bags coming apart or leaking. I smell each batch as I thaw it and have had no problems. They save space in my freezer and will be most convenient when I return to work!

I just returned to work and I love the concept of pumping directly into the storage bag. Additionally the full bags fit nicely into my lunch box. I agree with the comments regarding increasing the size to 6 oz and adding a double seal. My concern is that the gaps on the sides of the bag could allow airborne contaminates. I have to use the bathroom at work to pump...enough said. My solution is to attach two elastic hairbands, one around each end to the bag hooks. This seems to be closing up the gaps pretty well. Please let me know if someone or Medela comes up with a better idea. Overall, great concept and I hope Medela continues to improve this product.

You SHOULD NOT have to pump in a bathroom! Not sure our work situation but you should find a better place. My first day at work the sugggestion of the bathroom came up and I squashedthat REAL quick. Find an unused office or conference room. There has to be a better cleaner place...

I have experienced some spillage due to a poor seal no matter how much I try to close them right. Mostly I am concerned with the smell of freezer burn when I thaw milk out from a refrigerator freezer. I make sure to put the bags at the back of the freezer as suggested but it doesn't change the smell. Though I've been told that it likely is not harmful to the baby, it grosses me out. I feel like I have lots of wasted milk right now in storage.

I haven't come across the leaking issue yet, but after using the lansinoh bags, which hold 6oz instead of 5, and cost half as much plus have the double seals, i'd have to say i'm glad i got the samples of both. i love medela for everything pump related and actually prefer the storage bottles to the bags (though i have not used them in the freezer yet) because they are easier to warm up in the smaller containers and i'm all about being able to reuse them over and over. yay for less in the landfills!

The medela storage bags are good in the early stages of your pumping. It can only hold up to 5oz and it does have the convenience of pumping straight in the bag so less to wash in the middle of the night. My chief complaint is that once you pump more than 5oz, this bag is basically useless. Also, it only has one seal and I find that once i freeze it, the bag opens. It is also double the cost of the Lansinoh storage bags, which holds more and has a double seal. Overall, its not a bad bag but its definitely not for long term use and it is not economical.

I'm a working mother and love the medela pump its quick and efficient and built to last. With that said, I do not like their bottles so I went with the Avent bottles so of course when I pump I have to either store the milk in the medela pump bottle or into a milk storage bag. When I came across the medela pump and save bags I thought that it would save me time as I could just pump directly into the milk storage bags. The problem that I've run across is that the seal on the bags itself is poor. Maybe I got a defective batch but I've run across milk spilling out of the top of the bag even though I am careful to make sure the bag is full sealed. Before the medela storage bags I always used the Lansinoh and have never run across this problem.

I used the old bags in the past that did not require the adapter and I loved them! These bags are ok, but I tend to spill more because of the giant hole in the side for the adapter because i do not like to pump directly into the bag. I do however find them extremely wasteful because the adapters are in each box, I don't need that many adapters, especially since I do not use them!!! Please bring the old bag back, if this is for marketing to a large group, why not sell both varieties?? Or at the very least sell a version without the adapters in it, please try to reduce the waste.

I'm a full time working mother. I absolutely love my medela pump. I have been using the pump and save bags since returning to work for ease and convenience. In the beginning, I purchased the pump and save bags with the tape. Then the new design with the adapters came out. I do not like these as well. The new adapter makes the breast shields top heavy and has caused the bags while standing up to collapse. I have lost numerous ounces of breast milk down the drain because of this. I have now learned that I need to prop up the breast shield on the other side while switching out the other bag. It is very frustrating. I wish I could find the old style with the tape. The concept of the new adapter is good, but when it comes down too it it is an additional part to sterilize, wash and is not as efficient as the older style. These bags are expensive and I'm going to be looking into purchasing another brand. I'm tired of throwing my money down the drain on these bag and watching my breast milk go with it.

A friend weaned her little one a while ago and gave me a box of the Pump n Save bags with the sticky tabs. The rock! I agree with other posters that the "new" design with the additional apparatus needed and the large holes in the bag is REALLY a pain. I pump three times a day at work so time efficiency is at a premium. I actually came to the site today hoping I could find out how to find the bags with the sticky tabs-- bummer to find out they are design no longer made. Please bring it back Medela!

I have had spillage from the openings for the adapters. I would like to see medela come up with a bag that holds more volume. I pump about 8 ounces per session per side and overflow the bags . I purchase the large bottles then will pour my milk into the bags. I also do not like the closure. I would like to see them come up with a double seal. I like the original bags with the direct peel and stick attachment better than the new ones.

I am a new mom. So when I began pumping I was already having issues with getting more than 2ozs. When it was time for me to buy new bags, I was using the NUK bags, I saw the pump into bags. I was so excited! It made my life so much easier. The adapter was easy to attach and remove. My problem began after I had pumped 10 bags half of them leaked! And only have leaked so far because that is all we have defrosted. So I have 5 more bags in the freezer that I don't know if I am going to lose the milk in them. Considering everything I have bought from Medela so far has been amazing I could not believe the crap bags these were. I am going to return these bags and just go back to the NUK bags. I may have to pump into a bottle and then pour the milk into the bag, but at least it has a double seal and has not failed on me and I have gone through 100 of those bags.

I used the old style of medela bags with my first two children and loved them, so, of course, I bought some of the new ones after my third child was born. BIG MISTAKE!! The more I use them, the more frustrated I get. They are a pain to fill, since I don't use the adapters. Plus, I've thawed a few bags and they have leaked in the SAME EXACT SPOT!!! I definitely will not be buying this product again. I love my medela pump and other products but these new bags are just awful.

I used the old medela bags and loved them. Why would they come up with this stupid design that you have to use an adapter with or risk spilling it if you try to pour them in the bags. These bags should just be an option and leave the other older design in tact if we don't want to use the adapters - not to mention you have to buy a new set with each box of bags and they cost double the amount of Lansinoh. After I am done with this box of bags I will be switching to Lansinoh from now on.

I do not like the new bag design. As an engineer, I'm wondering who at Medela thought it would be a good idea to add complexity to the design? Why do women who are pumping need a yet another part to wash, sanitize, and try not to lose? And why do the bags have holes in them? It makes it incredibly difficult to pour from one bag to another. I only hope I can still find the old bags...

I bought the storage bags to use while pumping at work. I find it too time consuming to get the bags in place. I had to take several min to try to seal the bags because they were not easy to close. I also found it challenging to transfer the milk into bottles, especially if the milk had already seperated because I didn't want to shake the bag to remix. I bought these with the intention of them being my main mode of milk storage and feel like they were a terrible waste of money

My boyfriend recently purchaced the medela pump for me because I had returned back to work. I love the product so much that I purchased the new storage bags with the adapter to cut time while pumping in the office transfering milk from the bottle to bags. First time I used the bags, I tightly pressed the lock twice to secure the milk and it still spilled when I put the bag in my travel cooler. I was able to save 1.5 oz of my full 5 oz of milk I pumped. This morning i thought I would give it another go thinking I didn't close the bag good enought the first try. Same spillage. I give up, just hate the $ I spent on the bags. Back to Lansinoh.

I liked the old bags. I don't want to know how many ounces of breastmilk I have wasted trying to pour out the milk from the new bags into bottles. There's just no easy way of pouring without spilling. They are also smaller than the old bags, and it is very difficult trying to fit 5oz in eventhough the bags says it can hold it. Looks like they cut down on some plastic in the new design....

loved the old bags! Please bring them back! Nursing working mom of 2, obviously have no time, last thing i need is more parts to sanitize, especially when at work for 8 hrs and have no time to clean part in btwn breaks! What was Medela thinking?!
Dayle Pagano More than 1 year ago
I agree the new bags are much worse than the ones with the tape. It is an extra part to wash (which defeats the purpose of easy!) and when you try to pour into the bottle milk spills through the whole in the middle of the top! Medela- how do you not have a focus gp to work out these quirks. Very annoyed wit this new "improved" bag.
