October 10, 2007: McHenry-basedMedela Inc., a leading worldwide provider of breastpumps and breastfeeding accessories, will be inducted into the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) on Friday. Five Illinois state officials will attend the SHARP award ceremony at Medela’s headquarters to salute the company as a model for worksite safety and health.

With this certification Medela joins an elite group of 23 small employers in Illinois who have demonstrated their commitment to the health of their employees. All SHARP certified companies undergo a SHARP consultation visit and hazard identifications survey, correct all hazards identified, and achieve a Lost-Workday Injury and Illness Rate and Total Recordable Case Rate below the national average.

“We want to keep all members of the Medela family safe and healthy,” said Michael Larsson, chairman Medela Holding, who will be present to accept the award. “That’s why we’ve worked diligently to meet SHARP’s rigorous requirements.”
