About Us
Babytalk LLC is a retail store in Northport, Alabama, just across the Black Warrior River from Tuscaloosa.  Owned by James and Christine Cover, the Babytalk Store provides moms (and their babies) with everything that they need from the earliest days of pregnancy, to their stay in the hospital, and throughout the time that they breastfeed.

Clients can purchase or rent hospital grade Medela breastpumps and baby scales; or purchase any of Medela's single user pumps -- from the Harmony to the Freestyle. The Babytalk Store also sells the full line of available replacement parts for Medela breastpumps, including tubes, breast shields, and bottles, as well many of Medela’s other products, including  Softshells for sore or inverted nipples, Tender Care Lanolin, hands free pumping bras, and Special Needs Feeders.  The store staff are always ready to help customers with bra fitting, and selecting intimate apparel, as well as choosing maternity and nursing wear. Babytalk Store also carries a complete line of Kangaroo Care apparel to encourage skin to skin contact between mom and baby.

Products related to pregnancy and nursing are only the beginning of what the Babytalk Store has to offer. The store also provides a wide selection of baby clothing, shoes, non-disposable diapers, and other baby accessories.  Clothing sizes range from micro-preemie, preemie, and newborn up through toddler and preschooler.  There is an especially large selection of collegiate-themed baby clothing for 12 different teams.  However, as this is Tuscaloosa, the focus is on the 2009 National Championship winner, the University of Alabama.

The Babytalk Store covers 3650 square feet in area, providing plenty of space for a wide selection of moms and baby items.  Whether customers are browsing in the store or purchasing from the website they will be able to see the focus on products that prompt moms to say, "That is just what I have been looking for – it is exactly what I need!"

Testimonial
In the early nineties, Christine Cover was living in Northport, Alabama, and working part time as an RN on a busy Labor and Delivery Unit, as well as teaching classes on childbirth preparation and breastfeeding.  During that time many of Christine’s clients came to her with the same problem: they were desperate to rent a breastpump, but unable to find a place to do so.  Christine became determined to find a solution to this problem, and turned to Medela for help. With Medela’s support, she established her business, Babytalk, in 1993 and began renting breast pumps from her home.

Customers were very excited to be able to rent Medela breastpumps, and the number of Babytalk customers grew quite quickly.
Then, Medela introduced the Pump in Style Breastpump, and released a line of maternity/nursing bras.  Christine recognized these as quality products that would positively impact her client’s breast feeding experiences, and expanded her inventory to include more Medela products.  Moms loved the Pump In Style Breastpump!  They began to ask where they could purchase additional Medela accessories for their breast pumps, as well as other Medela nursing accessories.  In order to meet these needs, Christine increased the number of Medela products in the Babytalk inventory.

Christine’s clients were thrilled, and word of her business spread rapidly. Customers from farther and farther away began calling Christine and requesting that she ship Medela parts to them.  In order to more efficiently meet the needs of these clients, Christine created www.mybreastpump.com, a retail site with a focus on Medela products.  The website was a success from the very beginning, and Christine was soon shipping Medela products all over the United States.  By this time, Christine’s house was beginning to look less and less like a home, and more and more like a Medela warehouse.  She realized that Babytalk was now too large to run from her home, and that the time had come to open a retail store.

Today, Christine has retired from her work as an RN, and the store has become a family business.  Now known as the Babytalk Store, the business continues to grow and is now based in a 3650 square foot retail store on McFarland Boulevard (Highway 82), a main thoroughfare through Tuscaloosa and Northport, in West Alabama.  Christine’s original website, www.mybreastpump.com, continues to be a popular and well known website for providing clients with excellent customer service, while providing all the Medela replacement parts that they need.  Christine also now runs three other websites: www.babytalkstore.com, www.alabamababyclothes.com, and www.buyplushpets.com.  Although the Babytalk Store has expanded its inventory to include many products not manufactured by Medela, including preemie, infant and toddler clothing and shoes, baby collegiate wear, maternity and nursing wear, and shower gifts, Medela has remained the primary product line sold by the business.  If it had not been for the quality and popularity of Medela’s products, the Babytalk Store would not exist today.
