Samara B. of Maryland
(New Mom & Student)
Question - What activities would you do if you could pump hands-free?
Answer - Type with two hands!
As a very young new mom and student there are a number of things I could do if I could pump hands free, for example I would be typing with two hands right now instead of one. While collecting my precious breast milk, I could type with one hand and entertain my son with the other.
I would love to be able to enjoy playing with my son in the morning while I pump instead of leaving him to comfort himself propped up in his boppy watching reruns of Sesame Street. Perhaps I could study for state board while try to eat some lunch in waxing room at my schools clinic (which must all be done in 30 minutes).
When I get home from classes my son is normally napping. I could enjoy The Wendy Williams show while cleaning the dishes pumping milk at the same time. This would be a dream in Samara and Khali's Breast Feeding Chronicles A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only breast feeding mom in Baltimore or maybe the only nineteen year old one. Because I Can't afford a new breast pump, I was planning on breast feeding for six months with my one manual pump, but maybe with the Medela I could continue for the whole first year of my sons life at least.
When hearing about my breast feeding challenges family and friends suggested that I stop. I can't even imagine weaning my son and depriving him of the best nutrition I could offer to supplement with FORMULA. I've been pumping and nursing for almost four months now. I've been successful, but who knows how much longer my manual pump can last. While using my Medela Freestyle, I could even fix my hair and make myself look like a hair stylist FOR A CHANGE.
My friends thought it was funny when I told them I am writing an essay to win a breastpump. But I know that breastfeeding my son is serious business and I need a quality, five star breastpump. The Medela Freestyle sounds like the right pump for a busy mom/student like me.
